Trivia: It is a made-for-television disaster B movie about a waterspout that lifts sharks out of the ocean and deposits them in Los Angeles.[2][3] It first aired on the Syfy channel on July 11, 2013, and stars Cassie Scerbo, Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, and John Heard.[4] It was also given a limited theatrical screening via Regal Cinemas and NCM Fathom Events.
Sharknado was directed for film studio The Asylum by Anthony C. Ferrante, whose previous directing credits include the horror film Boo, and written by Thunder Levin, whose previous writing credits include the film Mutant Vampire Zombies from the 'Hood!.[2] The film's tagline is "Enough said!"[7] Sharknado is one of many B-movies commissioned by Syfy. The premiere of the film was watched by 1.37 million viewers, which is slightly below the average audience of 1.5 million viewers for a typical Syfy original film.[8][11] Despite this, however, the film was a trend on Twitter, including discussion by celebrities such as Damon Lindelof, Wil Wheaton, and Olivia Wilde and also by Cory Monteith whose last tweet before he died, was about the film. Due to an increase in publicity (mostly through Twitter), Syfy repeated Sharknado on Thursday, July 18, 2013, one week after its premiere. The airing was watched by 1.89 million viewers, an increase of 38% over its initial airing.[12] On July 27, a third airing of Sharknado got 2.1 million viewers, continuing the increase in popularity of the film and setting a record for most watched original film encore in Syfy history. Regal Cinemas announced that at midnight on August 2, 2013, it would play the film in roughly 200 theaters nationally.[16] Tickets sold out quickly in New York, Boston, and Seattle, where more showings were added to appease customer demand. Sharknado received positive reviews. It currently has a 81% score at Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 6.1/10 based on 15 reviews.[18] Reviewer Mary McNamara, writing for the Los Angeles Times, mentioned that the plot holes are "the whole point of movies like this" and that they are "fabulous in-home commentary. Syfy announced that they have ordered a sequel to premiere in 2014, set in New York City,[25] and were running a Twitter contest to allow fans to choose the title for the new film.[26] It was announced on August 8, 2013, that the sequel would be titled Sharknado 2: The Second One and is scheduled to premiere in July 2014. The Humvee at the end of the film was rather unsafe to drive. It did not have a working speedometer, nor a full dashboard. Also the doors had trouble opening or closing.

The opening sequence at sea looks like it takes place on one boat but was actually two boats. They filmed on a sailboat for one day during principal photography. The film needed pick-ups and they rented a cheaper boat to double for the hero boat. You can tell they don't match in certain shots as the original boat was longer and had a mast and large ships wheel.

Many crew members got sea sick during principal photography, as well as one of the actors. So not everything could be filmed at the time, hence pick-ups were needed. A lot of the pick-ups were done with the boat at dock so as to not get talent or crew sick again.

Tara Reid's character's house was a combination of three locations. The wide effects shots of it raining and sinking were a random house found on the side of a street. When the car drives up and the heroes get out it's a mansion with rain towers setup for the storm effect. And then the interiors were a set built in a pool so it could be flooded.

For the flooded interior house sequence it was shot in a set put in a pool. Unfortunately the water couldn't be heated so it was freezing cold. The actors can be seen shivering in certain shots.

Actor Cory Monteith's final tweet was about this film days before he died from a drug overdose.

The exterior of Fin's bar is a restaurant on the end of the actual Santa Monica Pier, but the interiors were filmed at a bar elsewhere.

The school bus sequence was filmed over several days at the 6th street bridge, in downtown LA. While a stunt double was used for certain shots, Ian Ziering did a lot of his own rappelling stunts.

Almost the entire movie was shot during bright sunny days. The weather and rain had to be created through a combination of rain towers, fans, and digital FX.

Robbie Rist, who plays Robbie the bus driver, also co-wrote a handful of songs that are featured on the soundtrack.

One of the choppers used, or at least the interior, is registered in Australia. During one of the in-cabin shots, the registration, starting with "VH" (the Australian code) can be see on the centre of the black instrument binnacle.

Director Cameo
Anthony C. Ferrante: Man in water at beach who gets eaten by a shark.
Fin chainsawing his way out of a shark's belly at the end of the film was shot in a parking lot.
Early in the movie, Baz and Fin kill a shark by shoving an air tank into its mouth and shooting the tank, causing it to explode, as in the end of Jaws (1975). On a special "Jaws"-themed episode, the Mythbusters proved this would not work.
You can not see the LA skyline from Van Nuys. The Hollywood Hills are in between.
Quote: Baz: "Storm's dying down." Nova: "How can you tell?" Baz: "Not as many sharks flying around."

Trivia: It is an American neo-noir crime film directed by Andrew Dominik and starring Brad Pitt, based on the 1974 novel Cogan's Trade by George V. Higgins. On May 22, 2012, the film premiered in competition for the Palme d'Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, receiving positive early reviews. Killing Them Softly is based on the 1974 novel Cogan's Trade by George V. Higgins, best selling novelist of crime novels, including The Friends of Eddie Coyle (novel). Cogan's Trade, like Higgins' other novels, takes place in Boston; although filmed in New Orleans area, characters in Killing Them Softly make several references to Boston area suburbs from the original novel. The film was written and directed by Andrew Dominik, who chose to update the setting of the story, saying "as I started adapting it, it was the story of an economic crisis, and it was an economic crisis in an economy that was funded by gambling—and the crisis occurred due to a failure in regulation. It just seemed to have something that you couldn't ignore."

Quote: Barack Obama (on TV): "...to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one..." Driver: "You hear that line? Line's for you." Jackie Cogan: "Don't make me laugh. One people. It's a myth created by Thomas Jefferson." Driver: "Oh, so now you're going to have a go at Jefferson, huh?" Jackie Cogan: "My friend, Thomas Jefferson is an American saint because he wrote the words 'All men are created equal', words he clearly didn't believe since he allowed his own children to live in slavery. He's a rich white snob who's sick of paying taxes to the Brits. So, yeah, he writes some lovely words and aroused the rabble and they went and died for those words while he sat back and drank his wine and fucked his slave girl. This guy wants to tell me we're living in a community? Don't make me laugh. I'm living in America, and in America you're on your own. America's not a country. It's just a business. Now fuckin' pay me." Anachronism: The movie is set in 2008, as evidenced by political ads, but a late model (2009 or later) white Mazda sedan can be seen on the street in one of the scenes.

Casting director for this Lee Daniels film is "Leah Daniels-Butler" (Leah Daniels). The director's next film is Lee Daniels' The Butler (2013), aka "Lee Daniels' The Butler". Anachronism: In the hospital scene, the patient is hooked up to an IV with a bag of sodium chloride. In 1969 NaCl would have been dispensed in a glass bottle, not a plastic bag.

Trivia: It is an HBO film about the lives of Edith Bouvier Beale/"Little Edie", played by Drew Barrymore, and her mother Edith Ewing Bouvier/"Big Edie", played by Jessica Lange. Co-stars include Jeanne Tripplehorn as Jacqueline Kennedy (Little Edie's cousin) and Ken Howard as Phelan Beale (Little Edie's father). The film, directed by Michael Sucsy and co-written by Sucsy and Patricia Rozema, flashes back and forth between various events and dates ranging from Little Edie as a young débutante in 1936 moving with her mother to their Grey Gardens estate through the filming and premiere of the actual 1975 documentary Grey Gardens. The movie ends with Little Edie singing "Tea for Two" at the Reno Sweeney cabaret in Greenwich Village, and the quote, "My mother gave me a truly priceless life."
Michael Sucsy said that he used primary sources to flesh out the story including letters and journals kept by Little Edie. He also interviewed family members and friends including Lois Wright who lived in the house and wrote her own book about the events.[3] Albert Maysles is credited as a source in the movie. Sucsy said that the house facade as well as the interior were created from blueprints. Sucsy said that an aerial shot of the house circa 1936 was historically accurate on the placement of the house in relation to other mansions in East Hampton at the time (although requiring CGI enhancements to create the illusion).[4] As with many movies based on historical events, some events in the Beales' lives, such as the timing of Big Edie and Phelan's divorce, were shifted to make a more coherent story.

Filming for the HBO film began on October 22, 2007 in Toronto. The entire film was shot in Ontario with most of the shots in metropolitan Toronto. The Valley Halla Estate in Rouge Park was the setting of exterior shots of Grey Gardens. Water front shots were on Centre Island in the Toronto Islands. Hotel shots were at the Fairmont Royal York. Studio work was done at Toronto Film Studios. The aerial shot of The Pierre was licensed from An Affair to Remember. It first aired on HBO on April 18, 2009. Budget: $12 million.

The film won the 2009 Television Critics Association award for Outstanding Achievement Movies, Miniseries, and Specials. It was also nominated for 17 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning Outstanding Made for Television Movie, Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie (Lange) and Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie (Howard). It was also nominated for 3 Golden Globe Awards, winning Best Made for Television Movie and Best Actress in a Made for Television Movie (Barrymore). Lange was nominated in the same category, but lost to Barrymore.
The movie since released has been lauded by many critics. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports that 100% out of 10 professional critics gave the film a positive review.[8] Ben Lyons from At the Movies raved, "Drew Barrymore is fantastic in this film." Rolling Stone critic Peter Travers also raved "The script hits a few bumps, but Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore are magnificent as the bizarro Beales. Barrymore is a revelation. Aging into her 60s and transformed in voice and bearing, she finds Edie's unquenchable spirit. Brava."
Awards and nominations

The film received a Golden Globe for Best Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television, while Drew Barrymore received a Golden Globe for her role as Little Edie. Jessica Lange was also nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as Big Edie.

Drew Barrymore received a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for her role as Little Edie. Jessica Lange was also nominated in the same category.
The Academy Award-winning composer Rachel Portman provided the film score. In addition to Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, the album includes vocal performances by the movie's lead actresses, Jessica Lange (on "We Belong Together" and "I Won't Dance" sung with Malcolm Gets) and Drew Barrymore (on "Tea for Two").

Drew Barrymore has stated in many interviews that she stayed very close to Little Edie's character throughout filming, shutting herself off from the outside world and from friends.

In the original Grey Gardens (1975), David Maysles asked Edith 'Little Edie' Bouvier Beale who she would like to portray her mother Edith Bouvier Beale if a movie based on Grey Gardens were made, suggesting Ethel Barrymore, Drew Barrymore's great-aunt, despite the fact that Ethel Barrymore had been dead since 1959.

At one point in the film, Phelan Beale expresses his dislike of Gould by calling him a "god-damned Ganymede." In Greek mythology, Ganymede was a Trojan prince whom Zeus kidnapped to be his lover - so, in other words, Phelan is calling Gould gay.

As part of his costumes for playing the pianist and music teacher George "Gould" Strong, Malcolm Gets wears a diamond ring; that ring was not a reproduction but was the actual ring that the real Strong had been given by the real Edith Beale. Strong's family members lent the ring to the film's production crew.

Little Edie's black bathing suit with yellow flowers is not a reproduction. Though it actually never belonged to Miss Beale, it is a vintage piece from the same batch of suits as the one that did. It had been collected by a fan of the original documentary and lent to the film's production crew for the shoot.

While in New York, Little Edie lives in the Barbizon Hotel, which (despite its name) was not a hotel but rather an apartment building on East 63rd Street for young single women on their own in the city. One scene shows Little Edie having to sneak Cap into her room because the Barbizon had a strict no-male-visitors-allowed policy (parents would often choose the Barbizon as a living location for their daughters for just this reason). Other real-life, later-famous women who lived at the Barbizon while starting out in New York City include Joan Crawford, Grace Kelly, Candice Bergen, and author Sylvia Plath, who had her protagonist stay in a residence much like the Barbizon in her novel 'The Bell Jar'.

At the very end of the credits, when the usual message about the American Humane Society monitoring the movie's animal action comes up on the screen, Drew Barrymore's voice (as Little Edie) is also heard reading the line, "No animals were harmed in the making of this movie."
Quote: 'Little' Edith Bouvier Beale: "Well, mother and I are very entertaining, that's true..."

Trivia: It is an American docudrama written and directed by Craig Zobel, and starring Ann Dowd, Dreama Walker, and Pat Healy.[3] The plot focuses on a prank caller who pretends to be a police officer and convinces the manager of a fast-food restaurant that one of her employees committed a crime. It is based on the strip search prank call scam and more specifically inspired by the Bullitt County McDonald's case.[4] Dowd's performance as Sandra was very positively received and won her the National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actress. The film ends with a message stating over 70 similar incidents occurred in 30 U.S. states. The film received generally positive reviews and Dowd's performance as the manipulated restaurant manager was met with critical acclaim, earning her the National Board of Review award for Best Supporting Actress.[6][7] The film holds a 89% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. At the premiere at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, Compliance was met with controversy, as the audience's response included several walkouts and shouting matches during the film's question and answer session.

Hospital Superintendent. HBO, December 11, 2013. Soundtrack: "Bleed for Love" - Written by Diane Warren
Produced by Harvey Mason Jr., Laurent Eyquem and David Franco
Performed by Jennifer Hudson.

Plot: Following the life of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela (Jennifer Hudson), from her strict rural upbringing by a father disappointed she was not born a boy, to her giving up the chance to study in America in order to remain in South Africa where she felt more needed, through her husband Nelson Mandela's (Terrence Howard) imprisonment. She then faces continuous harassment by the security police, banishment to a small Free State town, betrayal by friends and allies, and more than a year in solitary confinement. Upon her release, she continues her husband's activism against apartheid and, after his release from prison, suffers divorce due to her infidelity and political pressures. She also faces accusations of violence and murder and in the end, must own up to her actions in court, while many still remain loyal to her because of her fight against apartheid.
Trivia: It is a drama film adaptation of Anne Marie du Preez Bezrob's biography Winnie Mandela: A Life. The film is directed by Darrell Roodt, and stars Jennifer Hudson, Terrence Howard, Wendy Crewson, and Elias Koteas. Image Entertainment released the film in theaters on September 6, 2013.
Writers Andre Pieterse and Darrell Roodt, who also directed, developed the screenplay based on Anne Marie du Preez Bezrob's biography Winnie Mandela: A Life. The film was produced by Equinoxe Films. Filming took place in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Robben Island in South Africa beginning in April 2010.
Controversy: Winnie Mandela criticized the fact that she was not consulted for the making of a film about her life, stating, "I have absolutely nothing against Jennifer [Hudson, the film's star], but I have everything against the movie itself. I was not consulted. I am still alive, and I think that it is a total disrespect to come to South Africa, make a movie about my struggle, and call that movie some translation of a romantic life of Winnie Mandela." Some South African actors also criticized the selection of American actors for South African roles; Oupa Lebogo, general secretary of the Creative Worker's Union (CWU) said of Hudson's casting, "This decision must be reversed, it must be stopped now. If the matter doesn't come up for discussion, we will push for a moratorium to be placed on the film being cast in South Africa. We are being undermined, there is no respect at all."

Trivia: It is an American paranormal romantic zombie comedy film based on Isaac Marion's novel of the same name. Directed and written by Jonathan Levine,[6] the film stars Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Analeigh Tipton and John Malkovich. The film focuses on the development of the relationship between Julie (Palmer), a young woman, and "R" (Hoult), a zombie, and how their eventual romance develops throughout. The film is noted for displaying human characteristics in zombie characters, and for being told from a zombie's perspective.
Warm Bodies began shooting in Montréal, Québec, Canada in September 2011 with its airport scenes being shot at Montreal-Mirabel International Airport.
When R is talking to Julie outside her house the scene is referencing to the balcony scene of "Romeo and Juliet". R (Romeo) is talking to Julie (Juliet) on the balcony.
The story is based loosely on "Romeo and Juliet". "R" = "Romeo"; "Julie" = "Juliet; "Perry" = "Paris"; "M/Marcus" = "Mercutio"; "Nora" = Juliet's "Nurse" (the character of Nora is also a nurse).
The actors portraying the zombies in this film chose not to blink. It was particularly uncomfortable for Nicholas Hoult who did a few long scenes without blinking. Later in the film (when the zombies become more human), the zombies start blinking.
The character Nora was originally described as having brown skin and being half Ethiopian, but they instead decided to go with a Caucasian actress (Analeigh Tipton).
Quotes: 1. R: [voice-over, introducing M] "This is my best friend. By best friend, I mean we occasionally grunt and stare awkwardly at each other. We even have almost conversations sometimes." 2. R: [voice-over] "This date is not going well. I want to die all over again."

Trivia: It is an American action crime film directed by Ruben Fleischer,[5] from a screenplay written by Will Beall. It starred Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone, and Sean Penn. The film is loosely based on the story of Los Angeles Police Department officers and detectives forming a group called the "Gangster Squad unit" who attempt to keep the city safe from Mickey Cohen and his gang during the 1940s and '50s. It was originally set to be released September 7, 2012,[6] but in the wake of the 2012 Aurora shooting, the release date was changed to January 11, 2013 by Warner Bros. Pictures.[1] While the film, characters, and events are mostly fictionalized, the LAPD did have a unit called the "Gangster Squad" which was created when Clemence B. Horrall was the LAPD's Chief of Police.[7] A similar theme is the basis of a 1996 film, Mulholland Falls, and a 2013 television miniseries, Mob City.
Principal photography began on September 6, 2011 in Los Angeles. Sets were located all over L.A. County from north of the San Fernando Valley to south of the county border. Sets were also recreated in Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City. The first trailer for Gangster Squad was released on May 9, 2012.[10] In the wake of the mass shooting at a theater in Aurora, Colorado on July 20, the trailer was pulled from most theaters running before films and airing on television, and removed from Apple's trailer site and YouTube due to a scene in which characters shoot submachine guns at moviegoers through the screen of Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

It was later reported that the theater scene from the film would be either removed, or placed in a different setting since it is a crucial part of the film, and the film would undergo additional re-shoots of several scenes to accommodate these changes. This resulted in the release of Gangster Squad being delayed.[6] About a week after the shootings in Aurora, Warner officially confirmed that the film would be released on January 11, 2013, bumped from the original September 7, 2012 release date.[1][13][14][15] Two weeks later, on August 22, the cast reunited in Los Angeles to completely re-shoot the main action sequence of the film. The new scene was set in Chinatown where the Gangster Squad comes into open conflict with the gangsters as they strike back.
Depictions of reality: The film purports to be inspired by a true story, though much of the story is fabricated. For example, the film portrays Cohen organizing the murder of opponent Jack Dragna, whereas in reality Dragna died of a heart attack. William Parker is portrayed as a no-nonsense Christian in the film, whereas in reality he was far more controversial.[who?] The film concludes with Cohen being arrested in 1949 for murder and sent to Alcatraz. In reality, he was imprisoned in 1951 and again in 1961 for tax evasion. He was however, attacked with a lead pipe while in prison. Slapsy Maxie's, a nightclub prominently featured in the story, was a real establishment owned by "Slapsy" Maxie Rosenbloom, a former light-heavyweight boxing champion.

In the movie, the Gangster Squad is assembled to go after Mickey Cohen. However, in real life Chief W.H. Parker set up the squad to prevent other gangsters from taking over Cohen's rackets after Cohen went to prison on income tax evasion. Whenever the squad learned that out-of-town gangsters were coming to Los Angeles to try to set up new operations, the Gangster Squad would kidnap them, beat them up (some rumors say torture) and then send them back to wherever they came from with the warning that if they ever returned, they would be killed.

The original trailer for this movie was pulled after the Aurora, Colorado Century 16 massacre due to a shot in which four gangsters fire machine guns through a projection screen into a crowded movie theater. Warner Bros. then ordered the film back into production for a reshoot of the scene, necessitating a rescheduling of the film's release and rewrite of the script.

Quote: Bridge Goon: "You are dead, pal. You - are - all - dea..." Sgt. John O'Mara: [swings his baton] "Yeah, we get that alot."
Anachronisms: 1. The film gives the impression that the Gangster Squad were responsible for Mickey Cohen's arrest. In reality, Cohen was arrested in 1950 for the more mundane crime of tax evasion. He was also not sent to Alcatraz until 1961, over a decade after the film's time frame. 2. Parker Center is shown in the background of several shots but its construction was not started until 1952, so it wouldn't have been there in 1949.

Trivia: It is an American science fiction adventure film based on Suzanne Collins' novel, Catching Fire, the second installment in The Hunger Games trilogy. The film is the sequel to The Hunger Games, and the second installment in The Hunger Games film series, produced and distributed by Lionsgate. Francis Lawrence directed the film, with a screenplay by Simon Beaufoy and Michael Arndt (credited as Michael deBruyn). Jennifer Lawrence returns as Katniss Everdeen along with Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Willow Shields, and Paula Malcomson also reprising their roles.

Months prior to the first film's release, Lionsgate greenlit the second film and Gary Ross, director of the first film, was expected to return as director. However, on April 10, 2012, he announced his departure from the project due to the tight and fixed production and on May 3, Francis Lawrence was hired as the film's director. Throughout July and September 2012, the film's supporting cast was filled out, with Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Claflin, Lynn Cohen, Jena Malone, Amanda Plummer, Alan Ritchson, and Meta Golding brought in to portray key roles. Filming began September 10, 2012 in and around metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia before moving to Hawaii and New Zealand. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was released on November 15, 2013 in Brazil, November 20, 2013 in Finland, Sweden and Norway, November 21, 2013 in the United Kingdom, and in IMAX on November 22, 2013 in the United States. The film opened to critical acclaim and strong commercial success worldwide, and as of December 11, 2013 has earned over $675 million worldwide against its $130–140 million budget. A sequel, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is scheduled to be released on November 21, 2014, which will be followed by the concluding entry, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 on November 20, 2015.

Producer Joel Silver's contract with Warner Bros. - who were distributing the picture - was about to come to an end when Bullet to the Head was in post-production. Thomas Jane was brought into the project by original director Wayne Kramer. When Kramer left the project, Jane suggested Sylvester Stallone to hire Walter Hill. After Hill took over directorial duties, Joel Silver came on board the project and fired Jane because he wanted an ethnic guy for the other lead role. Sung Kang was subsequently cast.

Anderson also wrote and directed the 2007 short film Hotel Chevalier, starring Jason Schwartzman and Natalie Portman. The 13-minute film acts as a prologue to The Darjeeling Limited. In it, Jack's ex-girlfriend turns up unexpectedly at his hotel room in Paris, and they spend the night together. Originally attached to festival screenings of The Darjeeling Limited, it was removed during the limited theatrical release and instead made available on Apple Inc.'s iTunes Store as a free download. On October 26, 2007, Hotel Chevalier was removed from iTunes in favor of releasing it in theaters with the wide release of The Darjeeling Limited.

Storyline: A year after their father's funeral, three brothers travel across India by train in an attempt to bond with each other.
Trivia: It is a comedy-drama film directed by Wes Anderson, and starring Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and Jason Schwartzman. It was written by Anderson, Schwartzman, and Roman Coppola. The film also features Waris Ahluwalia, Amara Karan, Barbet Schroeder, and Anjelica Huston, with Natalie Portman, Camilla Rutherford, Irrfan Khan and Bill Murray in cameo roles. The Darjeeling Limited includes many of Anderson's signature themes and styles, such as despair, abandonment, sibling relationships, a privileged class who rarely work, and timeless fashions and props. Anderson has revealed that The River by Jean Renoir, the films of Satyajit Ray and documentaries on India by Louis Malle were his inspirations for this movie. The film was dedicated to Satyajit Ray and makes allusions to him and his work (e.g., the portrait of Ray in the compartment of the train Bengal Lancer towards the end of the film).
Locations: Much of the film was shot in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The Himalaya scenes were shot in Udaipur, and the opening scene of the film was also shot on the streets of Jodhpur. The International Airport shown near the end is the old terminal building of Udaipur Airport. The scenes set in New York were shot in Long Island City. Filming locations: Osian, Rajasthan, India

In creating the look of the train, production designer Mark Friedberg inspired himself partly from the 20th Century Limited, a train which linked New York to Chicago from 1902 to 1967.

Feature film debut of Amara Karan, who plays Rita. While she was still being considered for the role, Karan received the script and discovered that Rita smokes cigarettes. Not being a smoker, she enlisted some friends to help her practice smoking. During a meeting with Wes Anderson, Karan casually tossed a cigarette into her mouth and started smoking: "I am sure it must have looked really spontaneous." Anderson did not waste any time before asking her if she would come aboard.

Wes Anderson said that part of his inspiration for The Darjeeling Limited (2007) was The River (1951), and more specifically that he owes a debt of gratitude to Martin Scorsese for screening the film personally for him.

The abbey towards the end of the film was originally a royal hunting lodge belonging to the Maharana of Mewar in the Rajput era. It is located in Udaipur. To redecorate it, production designer Mark Friedberg was inspired by Michael Powell's Black Narcissus (1947) which takes place in an abbey in the Himalayas.

Wes Anderson had never been to India prior to May 2006, when he went there to polish his script.

Adrien Brody remarked that during the river scene, Wes Anderson's instructions were the exact opposite of what he had intended to do, making the scene sadder in his opinion.

Though no such train actually exists, The Darjeeling Limited was still filmed inside a moving train which went from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer and through the Thar desert, and proved a daily challenge for cinematographer Robert D. Yeoman as nothing could be fixed to the ceiling and filming equipment couldn't be more than a meter out of the windows. To achieve this, Wes Anderson and production designer Mark Friedberg went to see the Northwestern Railways company and told them they needed ten rail-cars and a locomotive which they would redecorate entirely and then move around their railway. This was the first time Northwestern Railways received such a request, and though it took a lot time and effort, it was eventually evidently granted.

After completing the screenplay's first draft, Wes Anderson, Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman all visited India together to see if the fictional world they'd created meshed with the real thing. Although the changes made subsequently were relatively minor, much of the dialog was excised from the later passages of the film as Wes Anderson wanted India's only natural beauty to speak for itself.

The three brothers - Francis, Peter and Jack - are actually named after Francis Ford Coppola, Peter Bogdanovich and Jack Nicholson.
The house into which the dead boy is brought, was not supposed to be blue, but rather have the same natural red color as the others. It was painted blue by a member of the village during the course of time from which it was selected until the crew returned. Anderson chose to use it anyway.
In the dining car scene, Peter is reading Jack's short story, Luftwaffe Automotive. The story is written on stationary from the Hotel Chevalier, in Paris. The logo of the French flag on the stationary is incorrect; from right to left, the colors are red, white, and blue. The French flag is blue, white, and red.
Quote: Jack: "I wonder if the three of us would've been friends in real life. Not as brothers, but as people."

Trivia: It is a Canadian horror film starring Katharine Isabelle and written and directed by The Soska Sisters. The film was produced and is distributed by Canadian production and distribution company IndustryWorks Pictures. Isabelle plays a medical student who begins taking clients from the extreme body modification community. The film was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia.[2] There were no visual effects; everything is either practical or members of the real-life body modification community.[3] The role of Mary was written specifically for Katharine Isabelle. The script was written while they were trying to sell Dead Hooker in a Trunk, and it mirrors some of the experiences that they had in the film industry, such as meeting sleazy people that seem initially reputable. Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska (born April 29, 1983 in North Vancouver, British Columbia)[1] are Canadian twin sisters who work together as film directors, producers and screenwriters. The Soska sisters were born on their mother's birthday, April 29, in Canada and run their own film production company, Twisted Twins Productions. They are known for directing often violent and visceral horror movies such as their directorial debut Dead Hooker in a Trunk, See No Evil 2 and American Mary.
Shot in fifteen days.
Katharine Isabelle learned how to suture a turkey for her role as Mary.
Billy Barker was named in tribute to Clive Barker.
The Soska sisters' parents re-mortgaged their house in order to raise money to finance this film. Moreover, both parents make cameo appearances in this movie.
From the creative team that wrote, directed, produced, and starred in the indie horror cult film, Dead Hooker in a Trunk (2009).
Tristan Risk's facial prosthetic make-up took two hours to apply.
Katharine Isabelle went to a doctor's school to research her role as Mary.
The song "Ave Maria" is played three times throughout the movie, with increasing levels of skill (amateur at the very beginning, when Mary's a student; intermediate; and a professional recording during Mary's apotheosis). The increasing complexity of the song mirrors Mary's development as a surgeon.
Tristan Risk patterned her voice after Ellen Greene.
All the special effects were done practically.
Nelson Wong only worked for one day.
Quote: Mary Mason: "I quit med school today, that shouldn't come as a surprise to you. I'm changing specialties Dr. Grant. Have you ever heard of body modification?"

Trivia: It is a motion capture computer-animated fantasy film based on the children's book of the same title by Chris Van Allsburg. Written, produced, and directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film featured human characters animated using live action performance capture technique, with the exception of the dancing waiters who dispense hot chocolate on the train, because their feats were impossible for live actors to achieve. The 21st century technology used incorporated the movements of live actors into three-dimensional animation [3] The film stars Daryl Sabara, Nona Gaye, Jimmy Bennett, and Eddie Deezen, with Tom Hanks in six distinct roles. The film also included a performance by Tinashe at age 9, who later gained exposure as a pop singer in 2010, as the CGI-model for female protagonist. The film was produced by Castle Rock Entertainment in association with Shangri-La Entertainment, ImageMovers, Playtone and Golden Mean, for Warner Bros. Pictures. The visual effects and performance capture were done at Sony Pictures Imageworks. The studio first released the $165 million film in both conventional and IMAX 3D theaters on November 10, 2004. The Polar Express is listed in the Guinness World Book of Records in 2006 as the first all-digital capture film.

This was Michael Jeter's last acting role, and the film was dedicated to his memory.
The buildings at the North Pole reference a number of buildings related to American railroading history. The buildings in the square at the city's center are loosely based on the Pullman Factory in Chicago's Pullman neighborhood, and the Control Center is based on the old Penn Station in New York City.

The appearance of the Ebenezer Scrooge marionette that frightens Hero Boy is the basis for the Ebenezer Scrooge that appears in Robert Zemeckis's next Christmas-themed film, A Christmas Carol (2009).

The film used 3D motion capture techniques to digitally record the physical performances of the actors before "skinning" them with their animated forms. All the children's roles were acted by adults using oversized props to get the movement right.

A close examination of all the ticket numbers reveals that they all contain the number "1225" in them. Pere Marquette No. 1225 was used as a model for the Polar Express locomotive. 12-25 also refers to the date of Christmas - December 25th.

The address spoken by the conductor early in the film "11344 Edbrooke" is the real address of Robert Zemeckis' childhood home. The home is in a south side of Chicago neighborhood called Roseland.

In the beginning of the movie, Hero Boy looks at a picture of himself on a store Santa's lap. The store's name on the photo is Herpolsheimer's, an old department store in Grand Rapids, Chris Van Allsburg's hometown. Later the train passes by the store.

The locomotive in the movie is based on the Pere Marquette 1225, a restored steam locomotive located in Owosso, MI. In fact, many of the sound effects of the film's train are recordings of the actual train. The train is often run between Owosso and nearby Chesaning for rides during festivals.

The Hero Boy has a University of Michigan pennant (featuring the well-known maize-colored "block M") on the wall behind his bed. Chris Van Allsburg is a real-life graduate of the University. Additionally, Pere Marquette 1225, the locomotive used as the basis for the one in the film was donated to the University of Michigan after being retired from active service and displayed on the campus from 1957 to 1983.

Robert Zemeckis: [keyhole] The Hero Boy looks through a keyhole early in the movie.
Tom Hanks provides the voice for many characters even if his likeness is discernible only at the Conductor. He voices among others both Santa Claus and the mysterious Hobo. The Hobo is merely suggested as being a spirit especially when he asks Hero Boy if he believes in ghosts. A deleted scene verifies that Hobo is indeed a ghost. The multiple roles of Tom Hanks are not simply an artistic choice but they intentionally constitute some symbolic undertones in the plot. Santa Claus, the Conductor and the Hobo represent the Holy Trinity and the trip to the North Pole is a test of the Hero Boy's faith since he expresses some doubts about the existence of Santa Claus who stands for God. The Conductor symbolizes Christ who continually tries to keep the children inside the train and ensures that the locomotive will not deviate (meaning that he guides the Christians at the right path). Finally the Hobo is the incarnate of the Holy Ghost in reference to the fact that he is a spirit who guides the Hero Boy testing continually his faith and giving him options.

The scene in the North Pole City communications room features an elf describing a bad little boy in New Jersey named Steven who is terrorizing his two little sisters. This line is a nod to Robert Zemeckis' friend and mentor, Steven Spielberg. Spielberg grew up in New Jersey and has admitted many times that he frequently terrorized his two younger sisters.

Santa's reflection can be seen in the sleigh bell for just a few seconds, when it is shown in close-up, after Hero Boy places the bell on the table, at the film's end.

The visuals for North Pole City are based on the architecture of the Pullman plant (the company that made railroad cars) in Chicago, IL, near the childhood home of Robert Zemeckis in the Roseland neighborhood. The clock tower that Santa comes out of is based on the Pullman factory clock tower and many of the other buildings are based on Pullman's unique architecture.
Quote: Hero Boy: "At one time most of my friends could hear the bell, but as years passed it fell silent for all of them. Even Sarah found one Christmas that she could no longer hear its sweet sound. Though I've grown old the bell still rings for me, as it does for all who truly believe."
Anachronisms: 1. Know-It-All states that the train is a Baldwin 2-8-4 locomotive built in 1931. The Polar Express was modeled from plans of Pere Marquette 1225 which is a 2-8-4 type built by Lima Locomotive Works in 1941. 2. When the main boy looks in the window at the North Pole and sees the record playing the Christmas song, it shows it to be a 45 rpm record. They were not invented at the time period of this move. 78 rpm was the standard wax record.
