Lucy. 2014 (French), Starring
Scarlett Johansson as Lucy, an unwilling drug mule who is accidentally dosed with a drug that activates a myriad of pre-encoded genetic conscious capabilities: The role of Lucy called for "an actress who could be believable as extremely vulnerable, as well as superpowered, when her exposure to an illicit substance inadvertently makes her acquire incredible skills." Impressed by Johansson's discipline, Besson reached out to her for the role, stating that she was immediately precise and professional, and he "enjoyed the way she talked about [the film]." He said, "She was excited for the right reason, which was the story. At that moment, it was a done deal for me. She was definitely the one."[8] Angelina Jolie is widely reported to have been originally cast as Lucy,[9][10][11] and as having dropped out of the role prior to filming.[12] Although Jolie was in "serious talks" with Besson since 2011 to star in his next directorial effort, then-untitled,[13][14] he stated that she was not his first choice for the role of Lucy and has implied that Johansson was upon winning the role.
Morgan Freeman as Professor Samuel Norman: Besson's wife and producer of the film, Virginie Silla, stated that given Freeman's experience portraying a character of wisdom, "it was pretty obvious that he was the perfect actor" for the role of Professor Norman.
Choi Min-sik as Mr. Jang: Besson said that Mr. Jang is the "best villain" he scripted since Gary Oldman's character, Norman Stansfield, adding that "Whereas Lucy is the ultimate intelligence, Mr. Jang is the ultimate devil." Besson and his film team "had to go and meet [Choi] in Korea, talk with him and discuss the story. And it was only at the very end that he said, 'Okay, I'm interested, I want to be in.'"
Amr Waked as Pierre Del Rio: Besson stated that "Del Rio represents the audience; he's basically you and me," adding that when Lucy has "lost all her emotions by being exposed to the drug," there exists "a tiny spark of emotion that's still there" when she is with Del Rio. Waked said that Besson having written the script was enough for him to want to star in the film.
Julian Rhind-Tutt as the polite English 'baddie'[8]
Pilou Asbæk as Richard[8]
Analeigh Tipton as Caroline[8]
Nicolas Phongpheth as Jii
Speaking of Besson's "interest in making the film one about the way we interact with our environment, and socially as well," Silla said that one of the goals was to bring together a diverse cast to show the planet's diversity and a mixture of the different cultures. She stated, "So we have Scarlett Johansson, who is Caucasian, Morgan Freeman, who is African-American, Min-Sik Choi, who is from Korea, and Amr Waked, who hails from Egypt."

Trivia: It is an English-language French science fiction action film written and directed by Luc Besson and produced by his wife Virginie Silla for his company Europacorp. The film was shot in Taipei, Paris and New York City. It stars Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman, Amr Waked and Choi Min-sik. Johansson portrays the title character, a woman who gains psychokinetic abilities when a nootropic drug is absorbed into her bloodstream. The film was released on July 25, 2014, and became a box office success,[5] grossing over $458 million against a budget of $40 million. It received mainly positive, but also polarized, critical reviews, with praise for Johansson's performance, entertaining or intriguing themes and visuals, and criticism for having a nonsensical plot, especially its focus on the ten percent of brain myth and resulting abilities. Despite widely published reports that Angelina Jolie was originally cast as the lead, but dropped out, Luc Besson has since denied them and admitted that he only met with a couple of actresses to discuss playing the lead role. He says when he saw how strongly Scarlett Johansson reacted to the story, she immediately landed the part.

In an interview on 08/03/2014 (evening news on France 2), Luc Besson said that this project took 10 years to become a reality. Also, he admitted that he knew that some scientific assumptions were erroneous, e.g. that humans use only 10% of their brain. Nonetheless, he said that "[such assumption] would be a great start for a sci-fi movie".

In the film, James Brown is a preteen when his mother abandons him. In real life, Brown was four years old when he was abandoned by his mother.
Quotes: 1. James Brown: "I say, are we done?" Bobby Byrd: "I think we got more funk in the trunk." 2. Aunt Honey: "You special. You mama's a no account fool, your daddy too, but you ain't going to be. You gonna be okay. One day, everybody going to know your name." Anachronisms: 1. When James walks to the private jet after talking to Velma at the airport, modern cars can be seen parked behind the control tower. Later, when the police are chasing James in his truck through an industrial area, modern cars can again be seen parked in the background. 2. When the madam is paying James, she peels off a roll of one dollar bills. These should be silver certificates or us notes with blue or red seals. Instead they are federal reserve notes with a green seal. These weren't introduced until the early 1960s. 3. At the beginning of 1965, Ben gives James a chauffeur-driven black Cadillac. The car in the scene was a 1967 Cadillac not a 1965.

Trivia: It is a British biographical coming of age romantic drama film[4] directed by James Marsh and adapted by Anthony McCarten from the memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen by Jane Wilde Hawking, which deals with her relationship with her ex-husband, theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, his diagnosis of motor neuron disease, and his success in physics. The film stars Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones with Charlie Cox, Emily Watson, Simon McBurney, Christian McKay, Harry Lloyd and David Thewlis featured in supporting roles. The film had its world premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival on 7 September 2014. The film opened to a positive reception worldwide and was nominated for a variety of accolades in award shows and film festivals. Redmayne's performance as Stephen Hawking was widely praised, earning him several awards and nominations including the Academy Award for Best Actor. The film received four Golden Globe Award nominations, winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama for Redmayne and Best Original Score for Jóhannsson. It received three 21st Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations, winning one for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for Redmayne. It received 10 nominations in British Academy Film Awards and won Outstanding British Film, Best Leading Actor (for Redmayne) and Best Adapted Screenplay (for McCarten). Historical accuracy: The film takes various dramatic liberties with the history it portrays. Slate wrote that "the Stephen played by Eddie Redmayne is far gentler and more sensitive" than suggested in Travelling to Infinity.[26] They further noted that the character Brian, Hawking's closest friend at Cambridge in the film, is not based on a real individual but rather a composite of several of his real-life friends. The film alters some of the details surrounding the beginning of Stephen and Jane's relationship, including how they met, as well as the fact that Jane knew about Stephen's disease before they started dating. Slate comments that the film underplays Hawking's stubbornness and refusal to accept outside assistance for his disorder, suggesting that following the book more closely would have made Hawking look like a "narcissistic jerk". Doctor Who (2005) (TV Series) - During the dinner with Jane and Hawking's friends, one of the friends said "Doctor Who?" and when Hawking got his Speech-generating device (SGD) the device said "EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE" which is a reference to the Daleks.
In an e-mail to director James Marsh about the portrayal by Eddie Redmayne, Stephen Hawking said there were certain points when he thought he was watching himself.

Eddie Redmayne met with Stephen Hawking only once before filming. "In the three hours I spent with him, he said maybe eight sentences," recalls Redmayne. "I just didn't feel like I could ask him intimate things." Therefore, he found other ways to prepare for the role. He lost about 15 pounds and trained for four months with a dancer to learn how to control his body. He met with 40 ALS patients, kept a chart tracking the order in which Hawking's muscles declined, and stood in front of a mirror for hours on end, contorting his face. Lastly, he remained motionless and hunched over between takes, so much so that an osteopath told him he had altered the alignment of his spine. "I fear I'm a bit of a control freak," Redmayne admits. "I was obsessive. I'm not sure it was healthy."

Kip Thorne won a scientific bet against Stephen Hawking upon the astrophysics theory that underlies Interstellar (2014). As a consequence, Hawking had to subscribe to Penthouse magazine for a year. In the scene with Jane and Stephen on the bed after moving it down to the kitchen, Stephen whispers "Thank you." According to Eddie Redmayne, there were originally no words for this scene, but he added it in himself. It turned out to be one of James Marsh's favorite scenes in the film.

The quote "Daisy, Daisy Give me your answer, do" that Hawking uses while experimenting with his new speech-generating device, comes from the lyrics of the well-known song "Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two)", written by Harry Dacre in 1892. This is the song that was used for the earliest known demonstration of computer speech synthesis in 1961, when it was "sung" by an IBM 704 computer. As a tribute to that event, "Daisy Bell" was also sung by the fictional HAL 9000 computer in a memorable scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), coincidentally also at a point where HAL's performance is slowly deteriorating (like Hawking's).

The cover of the chess book that Hawking reads: "Chess: Advanced Chess Strategy" written by Pavel Brinsky appears to be fictional. At the seminar room in Cambridge, Hawking sneaks the position after Black's 28th move during the game between Alekhine and Sultan Khan. Berne (1932) that appeared in Alekhine's book "My Best Games of Chess" 1924-1937 (1939).
Eddie Redmayne was born on January 6, while Stephen Hawking on January 8.
Felicity Jones and Emily Watson both starred in the 2010 comedy Cemetery Junction (2010) also playing mother and daughter.
Emily Watson previously appeared in War Horse (2011) with Benedict Cumberbatch, who has also played Hawking.
Jane Hawking requested that Stephen and she never make love on screen. Her request was honored as this is no more than alluded to in the finished film.
Stephen Hawking was cast for the final parts of the film, when giving the speech. However, he ended up only lending his voice to the actor, and was introduced at the very end, when witnessing his children play in the gardens of Buckingham Palace. This is not true, Redmayne plays Hawking for the entirety of the film.
Quotes: 1. Stephen Hawking: "There should be no boundaries to human endeavor. We are all different. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there's life, there is hope." 2. Jane Hawking: "What about you? What are you?..." Stephen Hawking: "Cosmologist, I'm a Cosmologist." Jane Hawking: "What is that?" Stephen Hawking: "It is a kind of religion for intelligent atheists." Anachronisms: 1. The phone number on the napkin started with the Cambridge dialling code - 0223 - which did not start in use until several years later. 2. During the Lecture in London, the three requirements of the Penrose-Hawking Singularity Theorem are shown in the top blackboard behind Penrose. This theorem was not published until 1970. 3. When Hawking is shown around the Cavendish Laboratory there is an oscilloscope on the bench which is far too compact to be of 1963 vintage. 4. When the rest of the family is traveling to Bordeaux by car they are traveling in a Volvo 740 (745) station wagon. It's stated in the movie that the youngest child, Timothy, is only a baby. This could no be as Timothy Hawking is born in 1979 and the Volvo 740 went into production in 1984.

The name is actually pronounced 'wee-ja', contrary to the popular 'wee-gee'. Charles Kennard, founder of the company manufacturing the boards, claimed he learned the name "Ouija" from asking the board what it wanted to be called.
Far from being ancient, the Ouija Board was patented on May 28, 1890.
According to costume designer Mary Jane Fort, the cast and crew would often take breaks between shooting and use the Ouija board to jokingly predict the box office opening weekend numbers.

Trivia: It is an American musical comedy caper film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Mandeville Films, and the eighth theatrical film featuring The Muppets.[4] Directed by James Bobin and written by Bobin and Nicholas Stoller, the film is a sequel to 2011's The Muppets and stars Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell, and Tina Fey as well as Muppet performers Steve Whitmire, Eric Jacobson, Dave Goelz, Bill Barretta, David Rudman, Matt Vogel, and Peter Linz.[5] In the film, the Muppets find themselves unwittingly involved in an international crime caper while on tour in Europe. Aside from co-writer Jason Segel, the majority of the production team behind The Muppets returned for Muppets Most Wanted including Bobin, Stoller, producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman,[7] music supervisor and songwriter Bret McKenzie, and composer Christophe Beck.[8][9] Principal photography commenced in January 2013 at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England. Muppets Most Wanted premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on March 11, 2014 and was released theatrically in North America on March 21, 2014. The film received positive reviews, although it was not as commercially successful as its predecessor, grossing only $80 million worldwide. Filming locations:

Crazy Credits:
Showing all 3 items
After the credits roll Fozzie Bear comes out and says, "You can go home now Ma!"
When the credits begin to roll, Sweetums starts pulling them up on a rope. Fozzie comes in to help, followed by the Swedish Chef. Dr. Bunsen Honeydew arrives with an invention to pull the credits up automatically. He pushes the button but the credits go by too fast. He reverses it and the credits scroll up on their own at normal speed.
In the middle of the credits, Fozzie says, "Check this out!" and puts his hat on the "LOS ANGELES UNiT" text.
At the end of the "Sequel" song, Walter suggests calling the movie "Muppets Again." "Muppets... Again!" was indeed the working title all through filming, but was changed at the last minute to Muppets Most Wanted.
Ricky Gervais and Danny Trejo appear in this movie after having had their cameos cut from The Muppets (2011).
During Miss Piggy's song "Something So Right," she imagines what her's and Kermit's children would look like. This gag was originally intended to be in The Muppets (2011), but was deemed too complicated to explain to audiences at the time.
Ray Liotta also had a cameo in Muppets from Space (1999).
The is the first movie in The Muppets franchise to make numerous references to (and establish continuity with) a previous Muppet movie, in this case The Muppets (2011). All previous Muppet movies rebooted afresh for each outing, so that characters could be given new origin stories whenever convenient, and "meet each other for the first time" repeatedly.
When Bunsen sings his part in the opening number "We're Doing a Sequel", where he mentions this is actually their seventh sequel to The Muppet Movie (1979), 8-bit music is being played.
James Bobin ensured the VFX in the film were practical as much as possible: "We never go down the road of having a full CGI character, which you could easily do. The joy of this movie is The Muppets exist. They're real; you can touch them. There are very few forms of entertainment in the contemporary world that exist like that, and Muppets are the last bastion of it."
One of the few The Muppets movies where Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy are together in the first scene. Kermit rarely shows up right away and Miss Piggy always later and never together. For example in Muppet Treasure Island (1996) she doesn't appear until an hour into the picture.
Tina Fey and voice performer Matt Vogel prepared with a dialect coach for their roles of Nadya and Constantine.
A lot of work went into making Constantine the Frog look slightly different than Kermit the Frog:
His frill is shorter and wider than Kermit's
His eye slits are more horizontal than Kermit's, making him look angrier
His mouth was constructed to look like a frown
and Constantine's puppeteer Matt Vogel would swing Constantine when walking, giving the illusion of a heavy-shouldered man's swagger.
In the song 'We're Doing a Sequel', Gonzo mentions that they're waiting for Tom Hanks to make Toy Story 4, most likely as a joke. Interestingly enough, Toy Story 4 (2017) was announced later that year (2014) for a 2017 release date.
James Bobin is the second director to helm more than one theatrical The Muppets film. The other is Brian Henson.
During his dance sequence in the song "I'm Number One", Ricky Gervais recreates one of the embarrassing dance moves performed by his character David Brent in The Office: Charity (2002).
Costume designer Vivienne Westwood designed Miss Piggy's wedding gown from a special fabric made from recycled water bottles.
Miss Piggy says "Ich bin ein Berliner" imitating President John F. Kennedy's speech, and Floyd says that she looks more like a Frankfurter. This is a pun playing with the German custom of abbreviating locally attributed foods to just this attribute, e.g. Wiener Würstchen becomes just Wiener, or Hamburger Stück/Steak becomes Hamburger. Coincidentally, this abbreviation is identical to that one of a citizen of that location (e.g. a Hamburger Bürger, which means Hamburg citizen, is just called a Hamburger).
The same holds true for the Berliner, namely the Berliner Bürger (meant by Kennedy), and the Berliner Pfannkuchen (Berlin jelly donut). Since Miss Piggy is a pig, Floyd suggests that she's more of a Frankfurter, meaning the Frankfurter Würstchen (Frankfurt sausage), which is made of pork.
This pun works much better in German since Germans do associate the "Ich bin ein Berliner" quote almost exclusively with a reference to the citizens of Berlin and not the jelly donut. Nevertheless, they use the same overlapping homonym.
Director James Bobin described the film as "a tip of the hat to the old-school crime capers of the 1960s." (The Pink Panther (1963), Topkapi (1964), After the Fox (1966), etc.)
The scene where Nadya is walking down the Gulag cell block saying goodnight to everyone by name (and they say it back to her) is a homage to The Waltons (1971).
During the train scene where Walter and Fozzie confront Constantine, he uses razor sharp dentures to attack them. This is a homage to the 007 film The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), in which James Bond is attacked by the steel toothed man called Jaws on a train.
Jemaine Clement, who plays the Prison King, and songwriter Bret McKenzie, were creators of Flight of the Conchords (2007).
"I Can Get You What You Want" was originally planned to be a raucous, fast-paced song with a tune in Elvis Presley's style.
Jason Segel and Amy Adams (from The Muppets (2011)) are not in this film, which is why stand-ins are shown from the back at the beginning.
Ross Lynch, Debby Ryan, and Bridgit Mendler are Disney Channel stars.
Cameos: Paul Reubens: "Pee Wee Herman" is seen on a bus entering to HBO Studios.
Christoph Waltz: as himself in the Berlin theater show. Waltz was the original choice for Jean Pierre Napoleon, but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.
Miranda Richardson: as a frightened Berliner.
Chloë Grace Moretz: as Russian news girl.
Steve Whitmire: gulag prisoner carrying Kermit the Frog is his voice actor.
The idea of smashing a lot of portrait busts, to find a small object hidden inside one of them, comes from an Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes story: The Adventure of the Six Napoleons.
When Sam Eagle and Jean-Pierre Napoleon met for the first time, the caption states "Interpol headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland." Interpol HQ is in fact located in Lyons, France.
Quotes: 1. Nadya: "Good night, Danny Trejo." 2. Constantine: "It's not easy being mean."

Greutert edited the film on his own and initially the film was slated to release on January 10, 2014, The film was later pushed back to an August 29 release date before it was given a limited theatrical and video-on-demand release on November 7. At some point, the sheriff tells Jessabelle that the DNA of the baby skeleton found in the grave shows that the baby was black. There are no markers for race, of any kind, in DNA. Jacob Sullivan did uncredited rewrites. Storyline: In 2009, London-based Iranian-Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari is detained in Iran after he reports on violence against protesters of the country's presidential election, as well as giving a satirical interview with Jason Jones of The Daily Show. While his pregnant fiancée waits for him, Bahari spends 118 days at Evin Prison being brutally interrogated. Bahari is usually blindfolded while being interrogated, and his interrogator's sole distinguishing feature is that he smells of rosewater.
Trivia: It is an American drama film written and directed by Jon Stewart, based on the memoir Then They Came for Me by Maziar Bahari and Aimee Molloy. It recounts Bahari's 2009 imprisonment by Iran, connected to an interview he participated in on The Daily Show that same year; Iranian authorities presented the interview as evidence that he was in communication with an American spy. Due to the content of the film, Stewart has been accused by Iran's state TV of being funded by Zionists and working with the CIA. The film was released in theaters on November 14, 2014. Filming Locations: Amman, Jordan, with footage from Iran. References: Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) - The scene with Slim Pickens falling with the bomb is presented; Teorema (1968) - Bahari has a DVD of this movie; The Sopranos (1999) (TV Series) - Bahari has a DVD of the show. A sound clip is heard as well. Features: The Daily Show: Peter Laufer (2009) (TV Episode) - Jason Jones' interview of Maziar in it is played by Maziar's interrogators as evidence that he's a spy. Maziar Bahari was imprisoned, interrogated, and beaten in Iran for 118 days in 2009 on charges that he was attempting to stage the overthrow of the Iranian government. One of the pieces of "evidence" that Bahari's Iranian captors held against him as proof of his guilt was footage from a segment on The Daily Show (1996) in which he was interviewed by Jason Jones pretending to be a spy. During the sketch, Bahari called Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, an "idiot". After he was released, Bahari was interviewed on "The Daily Show" by Jon Stewart, who discussed the role that the show had (inadvertently) played in his imprisonment. Stewart and Bahari became friendly, and Stewart decided to adapt Bahari's 2011 book "Then They Came for Me: A Family's Story of Love, Captivity and Survival" (co-written with Aimee Molloy) into a screenplay. Jason Jones was cast to play himself because of an interview on The Daily Show (1996) that partially led to Maziar Bahari's imprisonment. During Bahari's interrogation, he was shown the interview between himself and Jones that the Iranian government claimed was proof that Bahari was a spy. Bahari later stated the interrogators were fabricating charges to the Iranian government and were aware of Jones' satirical and risky approach. The actual Maziar Bahari makes a cameo appearance as a man sitting in the desk near the camera when his character "confesses" to his crimes on Iranian Television. Jon Stewart's directing debut. During the Jason Jones interview, certain shots show not only the camera purporting to be part of the film, but also the matte box of the Arri Alexa used to film the movie. Khalid Klein originally auditioned for the role of Alireza, which went to Amir El-Masry. Quote: Maziar Bahari: "I have nothing to tell them because I'm not a spy."

Trivia: It is an American action thriller film[3] directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch. Starring Keanu Reeves, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe, the film stars Reeves as John Wick, a retired hitman seeking vengeance for the killing of his puppy, a gift from his recently deceased wife.[4] Stahelski and Leitch, both of 87Eleven Productions, directed the film together, though Leitch was uncredited. The film was written by Derek Kolstad, who completed the screenplay in 2012 and further developed it for Thunder Road Pictures.[6] The film was produced by Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures, Leitch, Eva Longoria and Michael Witherill. It marks Stahelski and Leitch's directorial debut as a team after multiple separate credits as second unit directors and stunt coordinators. They previously worked with Reeves as stunt doubles on The Matrix trilogy. Stahelski and Leitch's approach to action scenes drew upon their admiration for anime and martial arts films, and the film's use of fight choreographers[10] and gun fu techniques[11] from Hong Kong action cinema[12] was additionally influential in the development of the piece. The film also pays homage to works such as John Woo's The Killer, Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Cercle Rouge and Le Samouraï,[13] John Boorman's Point Blank, and the spaghetti western subgenre of Western films. John Wick received acclaim from critics and audiences alike. Filming locations:

Point Break (1991) - One of Iosef's goons' video-game figures is labelled Point Break, another Keanu Reeves title.
According to Keanu Reeves, he did 90% of his own stunts in the film.
Director Chad Stahelski was Keanu Reeves' stunt double in The Matrix movies.
Keanu Reeves learned and memorized the nightclub fight sequence the day that the scene was filmed.
John Wick kills 77 people. Body count: 119.
According to the directors' commentary, when they shot the top-level nightclub fight sequence Keanu Reeves had the flu and was running a 104° Fahrenheit fever.
Bacon grease was placed on Keanu Reeves' face to attract his dog to jump on him when he wakes up in bed.
The Red Circle Bar is a clear allusion to one of the main influences for this film: Le Cercle Rouge (1970).
The Filmmakers took into account Keanu Reeves' Native Hawaiian ancestry for John Wick's tattoo. "Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat" (Fortune Favors the Bold) is the motto used by 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines based in Marine Corps base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay. Suggesting that John Wick was once a U.S. Marine in Hawaii.
In New Jersey, when John Wick first encounters Iosef, they are both pumping their own gas. However, self-serve gas stations are banned in that state.
Russian Orthodox Churches do not have benches inside. When John is walking into Little Russia Church, he is actually walking into a Catholic church. Quote: Viggo Tarasov: "They know you're coming." John Wick: "Of course... But it won't matter."

Trivia: It is an American dark fantasy action horror film directed by Gary Shore in his feature film debut and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Rather than focus on Irish novelist Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula, the film creates an origin story for its title character, Count Dracula, by re-imagining the story of Vlad the Impaler. Luke Evans portrays the title character, and Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper, Art Parkinson, and Charles Dance appear in supporting roles. Principal photography began on August 5, 2013, in Northern Ireland. Universal Pictures released the film on October 10, 2014, in cinemas and IMAX. Universal intends the film to be a reboot of the Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe. Despite mixed critical reviews, with praise towards Luke Evans performance and the story, and criticism directed at the characterization, Dracula Untold was a box office success grossing $215 million worldwide. This film is intended to be the start of a reboot of Universal Studio's "Monsters Universe" that was popular back in the 1930s and 1940s with films like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, The Mummy, and The Wolf Man.
The name "Ingeras" (Dracula's son) means "little angel" in Romanian.
This was the first big budget solo Dracula film produced by Hollywood to be release theatrically since Dracula 2000 (2000) 14 years earlier.
Despite a fair amount of Turkish being spoken throughout the movie none of the actors are Turkish or have Turkish language backgrounds. Therefore they have different accents even though their characters are native to the language.
Real life Vlad Tepes was a prince of Wallachia (Tara Romaneasca), he reigned for two months as a puppet of the Turks in 1448, then for six years from 1456 to 1462, then one last time in 1476 when he was killed after two months.
Sam Worthington was originally slated to star before being replaced by Luke Evans.
Filmed in Belfast on the castlereagh road. The studio is currently for sale.
It is quite obvious to Turkish audiences that the actors did not have a Turkish language coach despite the fair amount of Turkish used in the movie. Especially Dominic Cooper's accent is a dead give away, even when he is speaking English. His "r" sounds are more European than Turkish. Turkish people, even when speaking English, put a lot of stress on the "r"s, while Dominic Cooper almost always skips them.
The movie was originally Titled Dracula Year Zero while Sam Worthington was attached to star.
The lines that Vlad quote at the end: why think separately of this life and the next when one is born from the last Are from the poem "Look at Love" by Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi, a 13th century holy man and mystic.
The screenplay for this film was featured in the 2006 Blacklist; a list of the "most liked" unmade scripts of the year.
Charles Dance, Art Parkinson and Paul Kaye all appeared in Game of Thrones.
Samantha Barks was cast as Baba Yaga and Charlie Cox was cast in an undisclosed role but both of their roles were cut from the final film.
Abbie Cornish turned down the lead female role.
This is Gary Shore's first feature film.
Both Charles Dance & Dominic Cooper have portrayed James Bond creator Ian Fleming
Barry James Jardine was originally lined up for a part but pulled out due to other commitments.
The name "Mina", portrayed by the girl in the last scene of the movie, actually comes from Wilhelmina Harker, the fiancèe of Johnathan Harker, both being main characters in Bram Stoker's Dracula.
for other films: Both Dominic Cooper and Charles Dance appeared previously in vampire films. Dominic Cooper portrays Henry Sturges a vampire hunter, who turns out to be an actual vampire in "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter." Charles Dance portrays Thomas, a vampire elder in "Underworld: Awakenings."
This is the second time Charles Dance played a vampire. The first time was in Underworld: Awakening (2012)
Dominic Cooper has played a part in two vampire films which end with the main character/characters living in a modern day society, the other film is Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
Vlad III was not known as Vlad the Impaler during his life, but was rather given the nickname posthumously. Therefore, he would never have been called this by anybody, as he is several times in this movie. Quotes: 1. Ingeras: "My father was a great man, a hero, so they say. But sometimes the world doesn't need another hero, sometimes what it needs is a monster." 2. Vlad: "Men don't fear swords. They fear monsters." 3. Mirena: [to Vlad] "Death cannot separate us, for one life is born from the other." 4. Vlad: "It's not a child's place to save his country."
