In 1959, some 50-star flags are seen. The 50-star flag was not introduced until July 4, 1960. The scene should have used the short-lived 49-star flag of 1959-60, although most people didn't replace their 48-star flags until the 50-star flag came out.
(at around 5 mins) During the search of the 1959 elementary school for the lost Lucinda, modern fluorescent light fixtures can be seen.
(at around 2 mins) In the 1959 classroom scene, there are a number of flags above the chalkboard, where the white-blue-red Russian flag (used by the pre-1917 Russian Empire and post-1993 Russian Federation) can be seen amongst them. In 1959, Russia was the U.S.S.R. which used the yellow hammer and sickle on a red flag.
A New York City subway operator is seen wearing an MTA logo on his uniform, of a kind discarded since 1994.
The 1992-1997 Ford Crown Victoria taxi in the beginning of the NYC scene is too old to be a taxi as regulations require newer vehicles to be used as taxis.

As the Snowman's truck barrels into the Atlanta Fairgrounds at the conclusion of the movie, the soundtrack is playing "Marching Through Georgia." This Union Army marching song celebrating Sherman's March to the Sea would probably not be very welcome to the Atlanta population.
Anachronism:
In the first car chase the police car is a 1975 Dodge Coronet when it enters the dirt road, but when it goes into the creek it is a 1977 Pontiac LeMans.
Hank Worden is one of the drivers in the convoy, born in 1901 which would make him too old to drive an 18 wheeler at the time of filming.

- Jonathan Pryce as Sam Lowry. Pryce has described the role as the highlight of his career, along with that of Lytton Strachey in Carrington.[18] Tom Cruise was also considered for the role.[19]
- Kim Greist as Jill Layton. Gilliam's first choice for the part was Ellen Barkin; also considered were Jamie Lee Curtis, Rebecca De Mornay, Rae Dawn Chong, Joanna Pacuła, Rosanna Arquette, Kelly McGillis and Madonna.[20] Gilliam was reportedly dissatisfied with Greist's performance and chose to cut or edit some of her scenes as a result.[20]
- Robert De Niro as Archibald "Harry" Tuttle. De Niro still wanted a part in the film after being denied that of Jack Lint, so Gilliam offered him the smaller role of Tuttle.[21]
- Katherine Helmond as Mrs Ida Lowry. According to Helmond, Gilliam called her and said, "I have a part for you, and I want you to come over and do it, but you're not going to look very nice in it." The make-up was applied by Gilliam's wife, Maggie. During production, Helmond spent ten hours a day with a mask glued to her face; her scenes had to be postponed due to the blisters this caused.[22]

In the 2012 scene outside the CIA Station in Vienna, there is a 2015+ black Chevy Tahoe parked.
By the end of the 1970s, the term stewardess had generally been replaced by the gender-neutral alternative flight attendant. Surely a CIA station chief in 2012 would be 'politically correct'.
Prior to 9/11, passenger compliance with hijackers made sense since hijackers would likely not kill the passengers unless provoked. After 9/11, the assumption among passengers and air crews are that any terrorist means to kill them. This means that any threat of violence from someone would be met with forceful resistance from passengers. In the post 9/11 world it would be impossible for four terrorists with guns to control a plane full of several dozen passengers.
