Storyline: Four young Sudanese refugees (some of the Lost Boys of Sudan) are helped by Carrie Davis, a brash American woman, after they win a lottery for relocation to the United States.
Trivia: It is an American drama film written by Margaret Nagle, and directed by Philippe Falardeau. Filmed in Atlanta, Georgia and South Africa, the film stars Reese Witherspoon, Arnold Oceng, Ger Duany, Emmanuel Jal, Corey Stoll, and Sarah Baker. It was screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival before being released on October 3, 2014. Another major screening was held by the Greenwich International Film Festival on October 22, 2014, for the benefit of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. The Good Lie was met with positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a "Certified Fresh" rating of 87%, based on 67 reviews, with an average rating of 6.8/10. The consensus reads, "The Good Lie sacrifices real-life nuance in order to turn its true story into a Hollywood production, but the results still add up to a compelling, well-acted, and deeply moving drama." On Metacritic, the film has a score of 65 out of 100, based on 30 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews" from critics.
Ger Duany (born November 9, 1978) is a South Sudanese actor and model based in the United States. Duany was born in Akobo, South Sudan in 1978. He was forcefully recruited as a child soldier during the Second Sudanese Civil War. Duany successfully fled to Ethiopia at age 14, then to Kenya, and finally sought refuge in the United States when he was sixteen, becoming one of the Lost Boys of Sudan.
Emmanuel Jal (born Jal Jok c. 1980) is a South Sudanese musician, former child soldier, and political activist. His autobiography, War Child: A Child Soldier's Story, was published in 2009. Born in a Nuer family in the village of Tonj, Warrap State in the Bahr el Ghazal region of Sudan (now South Sudan), Jal was a young child when the Second Sudanese Civil War broke out. His father joined the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) and when he was roughly seven years old, his mother was killed by soldiers loyal to the government. He then decided to join the thousands of children travelling to Ethiopia seeking education and opportunity. Along the way however, many of the children, Jal included, were recruited by the SPLA and taken to military training camps in the bush in Etwas disguised as a school in front of international aid agencies and UN representatives, but behind closed doors the children were training to fight. Jal spent several years fighting with the SPLA in Ethiopia, until war broke in and out, there too and the child soldiers were forced back into Sudan by the fighting and joined the SPLA's efforts to fight the government in the town of Juba. "Many kids there were so bitter, they wanted to know what happened to them. And we all wanted revenge." When the fighting became unbearable Jal and some other children decided to run away. They were on the move for three months, with many dying on the way, until they reached the town of Waat, which was the headquarters of a small group that had separated themselves from the main SPLA. In Waat, Jal met Emma McCune, a British aid worker married to senior SPLA commandant Riek Machar. Emmanuel was only 11 years old then and McCune insisted he should not be a soldier. She adopted him and smuggled him to Kenya. There Emmanuel attended school in Nairobi. With the help of a British aid worker, Emma McCune, Jal escaped into Kenya. But even that came with hardships as he lived for years in the slums. But Jal eventually stumbled upon hip-hop and discovered the genre harboured incredible power, both spiritual and political. While studying in Kenya, Jal started singing to ease the pain of what he had experienced. He also became very active in the community, raising money for local street children and refugees. With the encouragement of those around him like Gatkuoth Jal who has also went through the same experience, Jal became increasingly involved in music and formed several groups. His first single, "All We Need Is Jesus", was a hit in Kenya and received airplay in the UK. Through his music, Jal counts on the unity of the citizens to overcome ethnic and religious division and motivate the youth in Sudan. After escaping to Kenya, he fell in love with hip hop in the way that it identified issues being faced by the neighbourhood, which he was able to identify with in a unique manner. Although he lacked any music background or knowledge of its history, he felt that hip hop could provide the easiest and most effective vehicle to express his story and lobby for political change. Jal, whose own childhood was robbed from him, aims to protect the childhood of others through music. He has also passionately criticised the current state of hip hop culture in the United States. He sees hip hop as a vehicle to communicate an authentic message, rather than a space to pursue street credibility. "As well as simply being great songs, people are really getting into the lyrics, really understanding his message, and he is a great role model." He has expressed concern about the message being sent by American hip-hop artists, saying "American hip hop is still entwined with gang culture, drugs, sexual violence, and greed. It's a battleground." His song "50 Cent" speaks to the successful American rapper to change his violent messages, which have a destructive influence on children, as exemplified through his Bulletproof videogame.

'The Lost Boys of Sudan', the name given to the groups of over 20,000 boys of the Nuer and Dinka ethnic groups who were displaced and/or orphaned during the Second Sudanese Civil War, served as inspiration for the movie.
Emmanuel Jal, the actor who plays Paul, describes his real child-soldier atrocities in the Michael Portillo documentary "How Violent Are You" - part of the BBC's Horizon series.
Ger Duany is a Sudanese refugee himself who suffered as a child soldier before being granted asylum in the United States.
After Jeremiah quits his grocery job and goes back to the employment agency, the phone number in the window is a St Louis area code, not Kansas City.
When the refugees first arrive in Kansas City and mention needing to meet an escort by the baggage claim, they descend an escalator. MCI (Kansas City's primary airport) does not have a lower level baggage claim. The airport is three, single-level terminals all with various baggage claims on the same level.

Anachronism: In the section of the movie where the refugees travel to the US, there is a scene that shows a Delta Aircraft (767-300ER) landing. The livery shown on the aircraft is the current livery used from 2008-present, also known as the "Upward and Onward" scheme, changed because of the merger with Northwest Airlines. The time that the refugees would have been traveling to the US is before the merger, so that livery should not have been used. The proper livery would be the either the "Colors in Motion" scheme, used from 2000 until the merger with Northwest Airlines, or the Ron Allen scheme, which was the livery used before 2000.

Storyline: The film opens with mad scientist Dr. Clayton Forrester, working from an underground laboratory, explaining the premise of the film (and associated TV series). Mike Nelson and the robots Crow T. Robot, and Tom Servo, along with Gypsy, are aboard the Satellite of Love high in Earth's orbit, when Dr. Forrester forces them to watch the film This Island Earth to break their wills; as per the television show, Mike, Crow, and Tom make fun of the movie as it airs. The movie riffing scenes are bookended and interspersed with short sketches. Prior to the movie, Crow attempts to dig through the ship's hull to return to Earth. After the filmstrip breaks and Dr. Forrester reloads it, Crow and Tom dare Mike to drive the Satellite himself, but ends up crashing into the Hubble Space Telescope; Mike then tries to repair the Hubble using the Satellite's manipulator arms, MANOS, but instead further damages the unit before Gypsy takes over. Some time into the film, Tom reveals that he has an interocitor like that used in This Island Earth. The gang tries to use Tom's device to return to Earth, but instead contact a Metalunan (the alien race from the film) who is unable to help them to figure out how to use it correctly but does accidentally repeatedly zap Tom's head with a laser beam. The contact is broken by Dr. Forrester, who also has an interocitor, and he zaps the group to encourage them back to the movie theater. After the movie, Mike, Crow, and Tom are far from broken, celebrating in various Metaluna ways. Dr. Forrester, furious at his failure, attempts to use his own interocitor to harm Mike and the others, but only succeeds in transporting himself into the shower of the Metalunan previously seen. Mike and the robots briefly celebrate Dr. Forrester's disappearance before they realize they no longer have a way back to Earth without him. Mike says "Hey, wait a minute!" and the crew head back to the theater in time for the movie's ending credits.
Trivia: It is a film adaptation of the television series Mystery Science Theater 3000, produced and set between seasons 6 and 7 of the show. It was distributed by Gramercy Pictures and produced by Best Brains and Universal Studios. The filmmakers dub a new comic narrative over the 1955 science-fiction movie This Island Earth, editing out approximately 20 minutes of the original film. Mike Nelson and his robot companions watch and give their comments about "This Island Earth". Alternate Versions:
a. In the original version, the ending was different. Mike and the 'bots made an elaborate practical joke in which they used the interociter to transmogrify a regular ant into a MutAnt (affectionately known as Scrotor), who promptly throttles Dr. Forrester. Meanwhile, Crow uses the chainsaw he found in Tom Servo's room to once again try to "dig" his way back to Earth. This was the version shipped to some film critics before the studio demanded they re-shoot the ending (too "scary".) It was finally shown to a public audience at the second MST3K convention, along with another deleted scene involving air being sucked in space a la Apollo 13.
b. Also cut was another host segment in which, during a meteor shower, the robots and Mike go back to the storm shelter (Crow tried to tunnel through space with it at the beginning), and when the air is cut off, the 'Bots run around heroically (and hysterically) to save Mike from asphyxiation.
Crazy Credits:
When "Puppet handlers" comes up crow says "There were no puppets in this movie."
Mike Nelson: ...he's the guy who goes around attributing his own faults to other people. Tom Servo: Oh, right. The *projectionist*!
As the credits go on and on and on, one of the robots lets out a flusterated: "Oh, now they're just listing some people who drove by the studio one morning..."
When the re-recording company gets listed on the credits, Mike speaks in a raspy-stuttering voice, "Re-recorded at Sync Souuu-uunnnd-dd-dddddd!"
At the end, where the country of first publication is, Mike and the 'Bots chime: CROW: Country of first publication United States of America. Offer void in Utah. When the "Thanks" credits comes up, Crow says, "While we're thanking people, I'd like to thank a guy named Earl."
On going joke about some guy named Rando in the credits.
Julie Walker's name is in the credits and a comment is made: "Julie Walker: Texas Ranger".

The control panel for the robotic arms that Mike uses to grab the Hubble is marked "Manos." Manos, along with being Spanish for "hands", is also a reference to the movie Manos: The Hands of Fate (1966) which is generally agreed to be the worst movie ever shown on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
When Universal originally released the movie, they thought that a limited release in a select group of "college towns" (where they believed MST3K was most appreciated) over a longer period of time would lead to a box office bonanza and keep it from having to compete with the early summer blockbusters like Twister (1996) and Mission: Impossible (1996). Instead, very few fans of the show were even aware that the movie had been released and the film languished in relative obscurity throughout the spring and early summer. This was the first (and last) time that Universal attempted such a plan.
At one point, Crow quips, "Oh, PLEASE, let us get the Sci-Fi Channel, oh please, oh please, oh please!" At the time, the production company Best Brains was negotiating a deal to air on the Sci-Fi Channel.
The TV show's usual density of gags was reduced for theatrical audiences, so that a larger number of people laughing wouldn't cause too much dialogue to be missed.
At ninety minutes, each episode of the television series is actually longer than the movie runs (73 minutes).
By many accounts, making the movie was not a happy experience for the filmmakers, due to frequent studio interference. Years later, at a cast reunion appearance in New York City, Trace Beaulieu was asked what the worst movie featured on MST3K was. His reply was, "Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie".
The makers of MST3K were so annoyed by their experiences having to work within a major studio on this film that they later parodied the experience on the TV series. In episode 704: "The Incredible Melting Man" the host segments are about Crow's screenplay being purchased by a studio then ruined by the executives (Dr. Forrester and Mother Forrester) as they vainly try to shoot it and screen it for audiences. Series writer and star Mary Jo Pehl would later call the episode an "exercise in healing" after the ordeal of MST3K: The Movie.
A sculpture of the head of TV's Frank appears on door #2 of the "theater tunnel." TV's Frank was a popular character played by Frank Conniff, who left the show after the sixth season.
When Mike Nelson uses the manipulator arms to free the Hubble, not only does the panel say Manos (see above), but when he clicks the button we hear a subtle reworking of Torgo's theme. Torgo was the central character of Manos, The Hands Of Fate and Mike Nelson would often make cameos spoofing Torgo throughout the shows' existence prior to his taking over from Joel Hodgson (the show's creator and star for 4 and a half seasons).
Tom Servo says, "Oh, they're flying into a Roger Dean album cover." Roger Dean designed many of Yes's album covers, starting with 1972's "Fragile," many of which look like the scene in "This Island Earth" that Mike and the bots were watching at the time.
The original DVD release had no special features and was withdrawn from circulation in 2000. However in 2003 on the 7th anniversary of the movie's premiere (19 April 1996) an unknown Internet fan released a Special Edition DVD. This two disc set has the widescreen version of the film, the theatrical trailer, TV spots, a review from E!, a slideshow presentation from the 1996 MST3K convention and the cut host segment & alternate ending.
The German version of MST3K was translated by the German TV comedian Oliver Kalkofe. Many jokes were changed to jokes about German tv shows and stars. Kalkofe even added some new jokes.
The "hard copy of the status report" that Mike is reading at the beginning of the film is actually a copy of "Satellite News" the official newsletter of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 information club.
Most of the puppeteering for Gypsy was actually done by Patrick Brantseg (who would later take over both the puppeteering and voice in the TV series) and the voice was dubbed in later by Jim Mallon. This was so Mallon could focus on directing the scene rather than operating the puppet.

The crocodile at Alexander's birthday party is very obviously an alligator. The reason was due to the fact that alligators are far less hostile than crocodiles, and therefore are far less dangerous on set to both handlers and cast/crew.

Ryan Potter as Hiro Hamada, a 14-year-old robotics prodigy. Speaking of the character, co-director Don Hall said "Hiro is transitioning from boy to man, it's a tough time for a kid and some teenagers develop that inevitable snarkiness and jaded attitude. Luckily Ryan is a very likeable kid. So no matter what he did, he was able to take the edge off the character in a way that made him authentic, but appealing".[10][11][12]
Scott Adsit as Baymax, an inflatable robot built by Tadashi as a medical assistant. Hall said "Baymax views the world from one perspective — he just wants to help people, he sees Hiro as his patient". Trivia: It is an American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics characters of the same name: Scott Lang and Hank Pym. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the twelfth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Peyton Reed, with a screenplay by Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish and Adam McKay & Paul Rudd, and stars Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Tip "T.I." Harris, Anthony Mackie, Wood Harris, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, and Michael Douglas. In Ant-Man, Lang must help defend Dr. Pym's Ant-Man technology and plot a heist with worldwide ramifications. Development of Ant-Man began in April 2006, with the hiring of Wright to direct and co-write with Cornish. By April 2011, Wright and Cornish had completed three drafts of the script and Wright shot test footage for the film in July 2012. Pre-production began in October 2013 after being put on hold so that Wright could complete The World's End. Casting began in December 2013, with the hiring of Rudd to play Lang. In May 2014, Wright left the project, citing creative differences, though he still received screenplay and story credits with Cornish, as well as an executive producer credit. The following month, Reed was brought in as Wright's replacement, while McKay was hired to contribute to the script with Rudd. Principal photography took place between August and December 2014 in San Francisco and Metro Atlanta. Ant-Man held its world premiere in Los Angeles on June 29, 2015, and was released in North America on July 17, 2015, in 3D and IMAX 3D. Storyline: The life of a time-traveling Temporal Agent. On his final assignment, he must pursue the one criminal that has eluded him throughout time.
Trivia: It is an Australian science fiction mystery thriller film written and directed by Michael and Peter Spierig. The film is based on the Robert A. Heinlein short story "'—All You Zombies—'", and stars Ethan Hawke, Sarah Snook, and Noah Taylor. Predestination received generally positive reviews from critics, while Sarah Snook received overwhelming universal acclaim for her performance. Filming locations: Docklands Studios, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia (studio); Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Filming predominantly occurred at the Docklands Studios Melbourne facility, located approximately 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) from the city of Melbourne's Central Business District (CBD). Scenes from the film were shot at the Abbotsford Convent, located in the inner-city Melbourne suburb of Abbotsford, and at the RMIT Design Hub.

If you look closely at the newspaper article text in the beginning of the movie the paragraphs are the same for each article, only the headlines changes.
Ethan Hawke and Spierig brothers have previously worked together on Daybreakers
Some scenes were filmed at the Abbotsford Convent in Melbourne, Australia.
This is The first Spierig brothers film in 5 years following Daybreakers which followed a 6 year gap between their first film Undead.
When Jane enters the bar and starts her story, her lighter doesn't work. The bartender then lights her cigarette. He has the same lighter, denoting they are the same person.
At the beginning of the movie when he sees his new face for the first time he says "I've changed so much. I doubt my own mother would recognize me.." and laughs, which is ironic since he/she is his/her own mother.
When Jane, now John, reapplies to Space Corp as an astronaut, the doctor who examines him closely resembles Robert Heinlein, the author of the short story source for the film, and is listed as Doctor Heinlein in the credits.
At the end when Ethan goes back to the bar, the owner is arguing at the Jukebox. As Ethan says, "I quit", the song playing is "I'm my own grandpa", alluding to his character throughout the movie. This song is also referenced in the short story in which it is based on.
The bartender's attempted joke about "What comes first, the chicken or the egg" Is foreshadowing the relationship between himself, John, and Jane.
Sarah Snook spent 4 and a half hours every morning in the make-up chair being turned into John.
Based on Robert A Heinlein's story "All You Zombies".
At the end of the movie, John Doe says via inner dialogue "The snake that eats it's own tail, forever and ever. I know where I come from. Where do all you zombies come, from?" A clear reference to the inspiration for the story "All You Zombies"
When the main characters meet for the first time in the bar, Ethan Hawke's character has the "LADIES" bathroom sign shown behind him. (foreshadowing that they are both 'ladies')
The Fizzle Bomb timer discovered at the bomb site is a Sparkfun Arduino Pro Mini 328, which as shown (with some connections destroyed) could serve its intended purpose.
Noah Taylor's third appearance as a "supervisor" of a time traveler. He played similar roles as tech support Edmund Ventura in Vanilla Sky (2001), and Dr. Carter in Edge of Tomorrow (2014).
In the early bar scenes when Ethan Hawke is talking to John, each time the camera looks at Ethan, the angle changes slightly. Sometimes the "Gentlemen" restroom sign is over his head and sometimes it's "Ladies", foreshadowing the final plot twist.
The Jukebox plays "I'm My Own Grandpa" several times, foreshadowing the plot twist at the end.
When John Doe sits down at the manual typewriter for the first time, beside the typewriter there is a copy of "Stranger in a Strange Land " by Robert Heinlein, who is the author of the original short story, All You Zombies, on which the screenplay for the film is based.
(At around 8 mins) When Ethan Hawke looks at his watch, his real birthday is shown.
The picture of the Crosby Shoes building in the beginning of the movie is actually a picture of the exploded reactor number 4 from Chernobyl Power Plant which erupted on 26th of April 1986.
An additional Heinlein reference - when John is at the store purchasing the typewriter, the saleswoman is holding "the moon is a harsh mistress" - also a Heinlein story.
Quotes: 1. The Bartender: "The only thing that I know for sure, is that you are the best thing that's ever happened to me." The Bartender: "You know who she is, And you understand who you are, And now maybe you're ready to understand who I am." 2. The Unmarried Mother: "You're not how I imagined you'd look." Jane: "Do I know you?" The Unmarried Mother: "You're beautiful. Someone should have told you that." Jane: "Well, you just did." Anachronisms: 1. The year 1974 can be seen in the electronics shop invoice (at around 1h 24mins), indicating that the chip used for the bomb was purchased then and not brought from the future. But the chip is an Arduino Pro Mini, which won't exist until 2006. 2. In the first scene which shows cars on the street driving this scene is meant to be the early 1970s but a 1979 Grand Prix drives by. 3. (at around 1h 20 mins) There are modern stereo headphones on the table in 1975.

A sequel to 2011's Horrible Bosses, the film stars Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, Chris Pine, and Christoph Waltz. It was released on November 26, 2014 by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film received "mixed or average" reviews, but was a moderate box office success, grossing over $106 million worldwide. The Untouchables (1987) - When they're doing the brainstorm to the kidnap, Kurt says the quote from Robert de Niro as Al Capone. "I want him dead, I want his family dead..."
Predator (1987) - Rex owns a prop from the film Predator, which leads other characters to have multiple conversations about the film.
Predator 2 (1990) - Kurt states that he, "Likes Predator, too", but then clarifies he meant that he likes the first Predator film also, not that he likes the sequel.
Fight Club (1999) - When Rex starts hitting himself, Kurt says "We have a fightclubber!".
Sudeikis stated in an interview that they wanted to put a gag in the film, where Jamie Fox's Character says to the Nick, Kurt, and Dale , "You crackers got to go. I have three other crackers coming in", and as the trio get up to leave, the three characters from The Hangover movies come and sit at the booth. They later decided against it, because it would take the audience out of the movie. Zack Galifianakis and Ed Helms (Alan and Stu from the Hangover Films) later heard about this and thought the idea was hilarious.
This is the first sequel Jennifer Aniston has ever done in her entire career.
This is the second film to co-star Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz. They previously appeared together in Django Unchained (2012).

When Nick, Kurt, and Dale are in the office arguing about "Kidnaping." You can see a schematic of the Shower Buddy on top of the table in the shape of the USS Enterprise. This is a homeage to Chris Pine (Rex) who has starred in both Star Trek movies.
