The movie is set in June 1995 as evidenced by a calendar that appears next to Fury's head in one scene, however several scenes contain pop culture references to things that are out of place. In the Block Buster scene a copy of the film First Knight can be seen however this would not be released in cinemas until July of that year. The song "Only Happy when it Rains" by Garbage is heard playing on a pub jukebox although the song would not be released until August 1995 on Garbage's self-titled album and as a single the following month. A poster can be seen for the album Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins which would not finish recording until August 1995 and not be released until October. The operating system Windows 95 in the audio CD scene was released August 24, 1995.

When Vers/Danvers enters Pancho's bar, there is a small poster announcing a Texas Hold'em Tournament. Hold'em did not become a popular bar game until the late 2000s. The first use of hole/lipstick cameras on ESPN broadcasts of the 2002 World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour beginning to air on the Travel Channel in 2003 led to the popularity of Hold'em for the poker masses. - Daniel L. When the Princess and Jack arrive at the air field, we see them driving through a very run down clearly abandoned site, there is paint flaking from buildings and greenery growing from guttering and roadways, suggesting they haven't been used for a long time. While you might expect the site to look 'war torn', you wouldn't expect it to look, disused as it would now.

Royal footmen didn't wear the gold and scarlet state coats during the war. On VE Day they would still have been wearing the blue battledress-type uniforms.

In 1945 champagne would more likely have been drunk from champagne saucers not flutes. Although we do see Champagne Saucers forming the cascade which Margaret knocks over.

The two main characters are wearing dresses that are from the 1950s, typified by the long, full skirts. These dresses are not just out of period, but they would have been illegal to wear during the wartime due to fabric restrictions, which the royal family were careful to follow, as examples to the nation. Princess Elizabeth's shoes are also not appropriate as leather footwear was not available in colours - again, because of wartime restrictions.

Love Walked In
Written by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin
Performed by The Peter Duchin Orchestra
Arranged by Stanley Schwartz
Produced by Barry Lazarowitz. Anachronisms: 1. Robert McNamara is seen wearing a Ralph Lauren Polo golf shirt. The scene takes place in 1971. Ralph Lauren introduced the shirt in 1972. McNamara probably would have been wearing a Lacoste "Alligator" (or more precisely, "Crocodile" - Rene Lacoste's nickname) shirt. 2. Movie starts out in Vietnam 1966 - The song playing in the background is "Green River" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. "Green River" was originally recorded at Wally Heider Studios in San Francisco, California during the summer of 1969. 3. While most of the telephones used were the correct vintage and had hard wired handset cords, several, including the phone in Ben Bradlee's kitchen, have a flat cord with a 4P4C jack connection. These were not introduced until the mid 1970's. 4. When the Post intern is seen crossing the street after he arrived in New York City, the street he is crossing in front of the New York Times building has a painted bike lane, something that was not in place in NYC (or really any US city) in 1971. 5. The informational card under the dial of the payphone used by Ben Bagdikian to call Ellsberg includes instructions on using a calling card to make a phone call. Calling card technology did not exist until the mid-1970s, and did not gain widespread use until years later. 6. In one scene, Katharine Graham glances at a photo of her late husband on a bookshelf, and next to the photo is a copy of William Barry Furlong's 1974 book "Season with Solti." 7. The General Motors delivery trucks carrying the newspapers are of a 1973 and later cab design, and would not have been available in summer of 1971. 8. An anti-war demonstration depicted in the film shows a speaker with a bullhorn reciting the exact words of Mario Savio's 1964 speech at UC Berkeley about stopping the gears of the machine. The scene is supposed to be in 1971. Also, the demonstrators are chanting "we don't want your stinking war." This must have been self-censorship to maintain a PG-13 rating. 9. Ben Bradlee's family television is a late 1950s black and white model with an overly rounded bezel. Color TV was popular by the late sixties (with most of the shows displaying an "up next" image bearing the words "in color"). By 1971, with virtually every program being in color, Bradlee would certainly have had a contemporary color television. 10. When Ben Bagdikian goes outside to use the bank of pay phones in June 1971, a blue 1972 Cadillac sedan drives past. The 1972 models would not have been available until August 1971. 11. When showing the rear section of the secretary of defense's airplane, the seats were of the slimline variety used today rather than the more padded, thicker seats used in the '60s. 12. In the McNamara's press conference right out of the plate, situated in 1966, one of the cameras that is clearly seen in the hands of a photojournalist is a Pentax ME, this model was release to the market in the year 1976. 13. Ellsberg's bushy hair and longish sideburns weren't out of place in 1971, but in 1966 very few men outside of rock musicians had hair that covered their ears and if one looks at pictures of Ellsberg while he was in Vietnam, he had close cropped hair. 14. When Post staffer goes to a pay phone to call Ellsberg, he apparently direct dials a long distance number, something you couldn't do from a pay phone in 1971.

American actor David Strathairn provided the voice of President Roosevelt, heard on a phone call with Churchill. Crave, November 14, 2018. Soundtrack: Music by Dario Marianelli. Anachronisms: 1. When Churchill is summoned by the king, as his car drives onto the the grounds of Buckingham Palace, the Union Flag can be seen flying above the Palace. At that time the only flag to be flown over the Palace was the Royal Standard, and only when the monarch was present. This rule was not changed until 1997, and even today, the Royal Standard is flown whenever the monarch is present. 2. Churchill is seen flying to France is a Douglas C-47 with RAF markings in May 1940. The C-47 did not make its first flight until December 1941 and did not enter RAF service until 1942. 3. The film takes place in May 1940. Elizabeth Layton did not become Winston Churchill's secretary until 1941. 4. Live broadcasting from Parliament did not begin until the 1970s so his speeches could not have been heard on the radio as they were being made. He repeated some of them later for the BBC and these are the recordings that are now available. 5. Four RAF fighter planes are seen flying over London in a finger four formation. While Luftwaffe had started using that tactic earlier, the RAF used a three plane "vic" formation until the end phases of Battle of Britain. 6. Winston Churchill's first use of the 'V' finger sign did not occur until the middle of 1941, a year after this film takes place. 7. Early on in the film a black Riley RM drives past 10 Downing Street. This was a post war model (1945 - 55). Also, a black 1949 - 53 Ford Anglia E494A is seen later on in the film. 8. At some point of the movie, you can see a Quartz clock (It being Quartz can be understood by the movement of the seconds hand. In mechanical clocks the movement of the seconds hand is smooth with step sizes as small as 1/6th or 1/8th of a second, while in Quartz clocks usually the seconds hand jumps for a step size of 1 second, and then pauses until it makes its next 1-second step jump for the next second). The Quartz clocks were of course invented before the time of the movie. But as late as 1960s that the development of cheap semiconductor digital logic made their public and domestic use possible, their use was just limited to some specific applications (like some scientific laboratories and so on).
