Anachronisms:
During the assault on Burpleson air force base, one of the attacking soldiers is seen firing a WW2 German MP- 40 sub-machine gun at the Headquarters building. This weapon would certainly not be used by a U.S. Army soldier in 1964.
When the US-USSR hotline was set up in 1963, it used encrypted teletype machines, not a direct voice line. Thus, the conversation between Muffley and Kissoff would not have been possible. Naturally, for the purposes of both drama and Peter Sellers' brilliant verbal delivery, the hot line is depicted as being a telephone.

Error:
Towards the end of the movie before the bridge is blown up, the soldiers are seen marching across the bridge on their way to a new camp. From the long shot it is not clear that they are marching in step, but it is clear from the sound effects. It has been a widely used practice since 1850 that soldiers marching across bridges will break step so as not to cause any undue resonant stress on the bridge and may cause it to collapse. While this notion that a bridge will collapse is still under debate, it may be that the scene shot in the film proves the exception. It's also true that a suspension bridge is far more susceptible to this resonant stress than a wooden trestle bridge.
Anachronisms:
When a Burmese woman spreads masking paint on Major Shears' legs, before they are to set charges onto the bridge, it's clear that William Holden is wearing 50's style loafers that not only do not fit the time, but don't fit the situation at all.
(at around 37 minutes) The calendar on Colonel Saito's office is correct for February 1943. However the pinup on that calendar was not drawn until 1955 by Gil Elvgren entitled "Waiting for You".
The movie is set in 1943, yet a 1946 Chrysler was shown as a military staff car.
The roofs of some of the buildings in the hospital scene have television aerials on them. Since the film was set during WWII, the only countries which had television in any significant capacity were either in North America or Europe. There shouldn't have been any television aerials as was no need for them.

Anachronisms:
After the shootout in town, the victims are propped up in the street, and a photographer uses flash powder to take a photo. The movie is set at the end of the Civil War in 1865, but photographer's flash powder was not invented until 1887 (and didn't become common until the 1890s). Prior to the common use of flash powder (pre-1890s), photos were taken using only natural light and long exposure times. Even after the invention of flash powder, just like flash photography today, it was used only in lower light conditions (indoors, for example) and would not have been needed or used outdoors in sunlight.
The fiddle that provided the music for dancing at the ranch was fitted with a chin piece, which was not used until the twentieth century.
Near the beginning when characters were belly-down on the ground, two metal high-tension electric towers are visible in the far distance.
Towards the end, Josey and Laura Lee exchange jokes about their respective home states. Laura Lee tells a gag about Missouri being the "show-me" state, a nickname which most people agree dates only back to the 1890s, whereas this film is set in the immediate aftermath of the Civil War.
The hymn "In the Sweet By and By" wasn't published until 1867.
The men in the cabin/store are using Colt revolvers with the Richards conversion. This conversion was not available until 1871, long after the time-frame of this story.
At one point, there is a soldier playing a five-string open-back banjo claw-hammer style in the background. Shadows through the leather head of the banjo can be seen. Even though the banjo started to evolve in the late 1840s, the open-back banjo was invented by Arthur Windsor in England after 1887, and "frailing" (claw-hammer style picking) did not become popular until the late 1800s.
In the town of Santo Rio the main street contains tumbleweeds, which did not appear in the United States until 1870, in South Dakota. It took several years for the tumbleweed to spread throughout the West, so they wouldn't have been present in the time period of the movie.
The word "simoleon" for dollar (the reward for Josey mentioned as "5000 gold simoleons") didn't appear until the late 19th century, at least 20 or 30 years after the time-frame of the story.
Before Ten Bears attacks the farmhouse, Lone Watie tells granny that Josie is a guerrilla fighter. Since the term "guerrilla" had only existed for about 25 years, but originated on another continent, a "rebel Indian" and a pilgrim settler wouldn't be familiar with it.
There is a wide spread use of Gatling guns in this movie. While they were invented at the start of the US Civil and were put into service by the second year of the war, they were never purchased by either side in the war, but by individual commanders. 8 were used in the Siege of Petersburg and others were fitted on gunboats.
They certainly wouldn't have been used to massacre some random militia.

Anachronisms:
The Glencairn whiskey glass with roses in it is seen at the Skyview Restaurant in the beginning of the movie. This type of glass wasn't manufactured until 2001.
When people are falling from the top of the Skyview Restaurant Tower, two restaurant workers on ground level listening a female-led rendition of "Rain Drops Keep Falling On My Head". That song was written by Burt Bacharach in 1969, a year after when the scene is set.
All of the women in the Skyview diner are wearing hosiery, which is period appropriate. However, pantyhose did not become the dominant form of hosiery until the 1970s. It's implausible that any of them, especially the older generation, would be wearing stockings.

In 1991, when the main story is set, Hong Kong was not part of China, but a British colony. It was transferred to China in 1997 as per the Sino-British Joint Declaration of 1984.
In addition to putting a non-existent US embassy into Hong Kong, the movie also places one in Berlin. In the 1980s the US Embassy to West Germany was in Bonn, not West Berlin (which was not strictly speaking part of West Germany).
In 1985 in the Beirut café, the song heard in the background is "Noor Eshams" by the Lebanese singer Pascal Mashalani, the song was released for the first time in 2000.
Late-1990s vintage computers and monitors appear in the scenes set in 1985 (the embassy in Beirut) and 1991 (the CIA headquarters).
GSM mobile phone panel antennas, not used in the '80s, can be clearly seen all around the roof of the building in West Berlin.
In 1985, there weren't any small satellite dishes in Lebanon.
There's a huge Coca-Cola sign in the Beirut café in 1985, but Coca-Cola wasn't re-introduced to the Lebanese market until July 1990, after a 23 year absence.
The cellphone that Muir uses was not available in 1991 when the movie was set. First models in the Nokia 2100 series were available during the summer of 1994, many other 21xx models much later on in America.
The opening to Baywatch (1989) being watched by the businessmen shows a credit for Pamela Anderson. This scene takes place in 1991, and Anderson did not join the show's cast until 1992.
The plane in which Muir is supposed to travel to Karachi is an Spanish made CN-235. This plane were introduced in 1986, not '85 when scene is situated. By April 1975, the US air base at Danang had been evacuated.
The song that is being played at the restaurant where Nathan joins Tom and Elizabeth was released in the year 2000. While Tom and Elizabeth were sitting in a restaurant and Nathan joined them, they was an Arabic song on the back called Noor Alshams "Sun light" by Baskal Mashaalani. It was released in 2000.

Anachronisms:
Fanny's black tennis shoes - worn for comic effect in the 1937 Aquacade number - aren't period-correct: it wasn't until 1949 that Converse decided to make the toe guard, laces and outer wraps on black "Chuck Taylors" a contrasting white.
When Fanny Brice takes off, singing, in the yellow biplane, the plane is shown taking off from a runway clearly marked with Instrument Landing System (ILS) bars, which had not yet been developed in the late 1920's when the scene is set.
When Fanny makes an unexpected visit to Billy's "Aquacade" (Great Lakes Exposition, 1937) they are walking by the pool, and having a private conversation before the dress rehearsal. A jet aircraft can be heard flying overhead. The very first aircraft to be jet powered was flown on a test flight in Germany, August 1939.
