The film is a loose adaptation of the 1981 novel of the same name by Whitley Strieber, with a screenplay by Ivan Davis and Michael Thomas. 2. David Bowie said that, in order to make his voice suitably hoarse for when he aged so drastically in the movie, he stood on the George Washington Bridge every night and screamed all the punk rock songs he knew. David Bowie actually learned to play the cello for his music scenes. 3. Tony Scott wanted to shoot the whole film in New York City, but had to settle for filming the bulk of the movie in London, England because the budget wasn't big enough to afford shooting the entire picture in New York. Tony Scott had to actively campaign for the casting of Willem Dafoe in a small part. 6. Tony Scott discovered the rock group Bauhaus in a London nightclub and decided to put them in the movie. 7. The rewritten ending was added at the studio's behest, with a view to leaving the film open-ended and allowing for possible sequels. Storyline: Milo, a bored, lonely boy who lives in a San Francisco apartment block all by himself, is surprised by the sudden arrival of a large, gift-wrapped package. Inside is a tollbooth, which turns out to be a gateway into a magical parallel universe. As Milo passes through the tollbooth, the character moves from live action to animation, and his toy car transports him to the enchanted Kingdom of Wisdom and the cities of Digitopolis and Dictionopolis. Accompanied by a watchdog called Tock (due to a large clock face embedded into his body), Milo has a series of adventures in places like the Mountains of Ignorance, the Doldrums, Dictionopolis, Digitopolis, and the Castle in the Air. Together they must rescue the Princesses Rhyme and Reason, who are being held captive in the Castle in the Air, and restore order to the Kingdom of Wisdom. The many eccentric characters they meet include the noisy Dr. Dischord, the Mathemagician, King Azaz, the Senses Taker, and Officer Short Shrift. Trivia: 1. It is a live-action/animated film based on Norton Juster's 1961 children's book The Phantom Tollbooth. This film was produced by Chuck Jones at MGM Animation/Visual Arts. Jones also directed the film, save for the live action bookends directed by fellow Warner Bros. Cartoons alum Dave Monahan. The film was released to theaters by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer on November 7, 1970, and was the last MGM feature film release to include animated segments. MGM's United Artists subsidiary would release its first fully animated film The Secret of NIMH in 1982. 2. Completed by 1968, the film was held up for release by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer until late 1969 due to internal problems. The animation studio closed soon after the film's release, with MGM leaving the animation business for good. Juster had no input into the film adaptation, and has stated that he is not particularly fond of it. This film was actually made in 1968 but due to MGM's financial problems and frequently changing management, the film was not heavily promoted. When it was released in 1970, it was not a box office success. 3. When Milo is in class and many people are heard speaking at once, one of them is the voice of Mel Blanc who also voiced Officer Short Shrift, The Word Speller, The Dodecahedron, and The Demon of Insincerity. Quote: Milo: Look! You can't arrest me. I haven't been doing anything.
Officer Short Shrift: Not doing anything, eh? You'll have to admit at your age that's a crime.
12 Ways to Say I'm Sorry. 2007 (6 min - Short/Comedy), Starring D.J. McCarthey as Not Really Will Ferguson, Alain Goulem as George from Texas, Brett Watson as Dave, Johanna Nutter as Tilda, Omari Newton as Buster, Lina Roessler as Jenny, Nick Baillie as Robert, Paula Jean Hixson as Lauren. Encore Avenue, January 3, 2013. Director and writer: Alex Epstein. Will Ferguson (or someone claiming to be him) introduces you to the twelve meanings of the phrase "I'm Sorry," almost none of which express actual regret. Storyline: In this mock informational documentary, Canadian host Will Ferguson explains that there are different cultural connotations to the phrase "I'm sorry" so one must be careful in its use not to provide the wrong meaning. He goes on to explain that in Canada, there are twelve different meanings for the often thrown out off the cuff term "sorry", including the occupational sorry, the subversive sorry, the supercilious sorry, the sexual sorry, the counterfactual sorry, the intellectual sorry, the sympathetic sorry, and the unrepentant sorry. But in reality, do any of these sorry's actually mean "I'm sorry" in the literal sense? In other words, is there actually an authentic sorry in Canadian vernacular? Quotes: 1. Trivia: 1. The film is based in part on the 1956 short story "Steel" by Richard Matheson, though screenwriter John Gatins placed the film in U.S. state fairs and other "old-fashioned" Americana settings. Real Steel was in development for several years before production began on June 11, 2010. 2. Filming took place primarily in the U.S. state of Michigan. Locations include areas around Detroit, Michigan, and across the state, including at the Renaissance Center, the Cobo Arena, the Detroit Fire Department headquarters, the Russell Industrial Center, the Ingham County Courthouse, the former Belle Isle Zoo, and the Highland Park Ford Plant. 3. Animatronic robots were built for the film, and motion capture technology was used to depict the brawling of computer-generated robots and animatronics. Real Steel was publicly released in Australia on October 6, 2011, and in the United States and Canada on October 7, 2011, to mixed reviews and grossed $295 million at the box office. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects at the 84th Academy Awards. 4. Among the many parallels to the movie Rocky, the world champion (Zeus) gives an unheralded local club fighter (Atom) a shot at the title and then unexpectedly gets into the fight of his life before winning a controversial split decision to the disdain of the crowd; the fight lasts the full 5 rounds with each fighter suffering many injuries; the match illustrates Atom's apparently unlimited ability to absorb punishment; and despite losing, Atom is declared "the people's champion." 5. Charlie Kenton's idea to wear down Zeus's power supply by allowing him to repeatedly land blows on Atom was in fact a technique used by real life professional boxer Muhammad Ali. Nicknamed the 'rope-a-dope', Ali utilized the strategy to tire fellow boxer George Foreman, a much stronger opponent than himself, and eventually gain victory. Ali famously angered Foreman with phrases such as "Is that all you got, George?" during the fight, mirrored in the film by Kenton's taunting hand gesture. Much of the robot boxing fights were motion-captured using professional boxers, supervised by Sugar Ray Leonard. Boxing hall-of-famer Sugar Ray Leonard was an adviser for the boxing scenes and gave Jackman boxing lessons so his moves would be more natural. 6. The story is set in the year 2020. 7. The girls who ask to pose for a picture with Ambush are director Shawn Levy's daughters.

Synopsis: Three California gray whales, trapped in a hole in the ice of the Arctic Circle, are discovered by television news reporter Adam Carlson (John Krasinski). Their plight is publicized after he does a feature on them, which he hopes might be his opportunity to move up to a larger TV market. His news story draws international attention and sets into motion a massive effort to free the whales from the ice. Drawn into the collaborative rescue work are several normally hostile factions: Inupiat whale hunters, a Greenpeace environmental activist, an oil executive, ambitious news reporters, the National Guard, the American president and politicians on the state, national and international levels. Also joining in the effort are two entrepreneurs from Minnesota, who provide de-icing machines to help keep the hole open. Finally an enormous Soviet ice-breaker ship arrives to remove the last barrier before the whales die.The ship's first attempt doesn't work and leaves only a dent. The ice is finally broken and the adult whales escape the ice. Sadly, the infant whale Bam-Bam dies from injuries and does not ever surface. Trivia: 1. The film, directed by Ken Kwapis, is based on the 1989 book Freeing the Whales by Tom Rose, which covers Operation Breakthrough, the 1988 international effort to rescue gray whales trapped in ice near Point Barrow, Alaska. The film was released on February 3, 2012. The movie flopped at the box office, only opening to more than $7 million and pulling in $24,719,215 overall. 2. Filming began in Seward, Alaska, and the crew constructed sets in Anchorage to resemble places in Barrow during the whale rescue. 3. The film received generally positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes the film currently holds a rating of 74% based on 95 reviews. The site's consensus was: "Big Miracle uses real-life events as the basis for a surprisingly satisfying family drama." Metacritic currently holds a score of 61 based on 28 reviews. 4. The sportscaster shown at the end of the archived news clip is Sarah Palin, before she became the Governor of Alaska and Vice President nominee around two decades after the events depicted in the movie. 5. The character Governor Haskell was named Steve Cowper in real life. Kelly Meyers was really Bonnie Mersinger. 6. The movie was filmed under the working title "Everybody Loves Whales." John Krasinski's character, Adam Carlson, pays homage to the working title when he says that "everybody loves whales" in a particular scene. 7. Much of the footage for the film was shot in and around Anchorage, Alaska. The ice scenes were filmed at Beluga Point south of Anchorage, and several scenes which in the film took place in California were actually shot on location in the Turnagain neighborhood in west Anchorage: plants native to Southern California were used to dress the houses in those scenes. Real Alaska National Guardsmen were used to play the Guardsmen in the film. 8. One of the reporters shown in the movie is played by Jackie Purcell, real-life chief meteorologist for KTUU-NBC Channel 2 in Anchorage, Alaska - the station for which Adam Carlson, John Krasinski's character, works in the film.

In her autobiography "And Furthermore," Judi Dench says that she never really understood what was going on in the movie The Chronicles of Riddick, but she enjoyed the experience of making the movie, and she thought the sets were great. 8. Director Cameo - David Twohy: After Riddick escapes from the Quasi-Deads, the statue and face of writer/director David Twohy can be seen on the Necromonger ship that's shot down by a team of Mercs lead by Toombs.

The film was shot on location in Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi and Bangkok, Thailand; Swakopmund, Namibia; and Montréal and Baie St-Paul, Canada. Thailand stood in for the scenes set in Cambodia. 2. Amputees shown in the scene at Khmer Rouge were actual land-mine victims. 3. Angelina Jolie adopted her son Maddox during filming of this movie while in Cambodia. 4. Prior to making this film, Angelina Jolie did volunteer work for the same United Nations organization her character plays in the film. She was ultimately named a UN goodwill ambassador and in 2003 published some journals she wrote of her experiences, titled "Notes from My Travels", to raise funds for refugee relief. Some of the places she writes about are featured in this movie. 5. Angelina Jolie performs her own piano playing. 6. Although Beyond Borders was critically panned, on the film's official website, the president of an international relief organization commended the film: "Beyond Borders is an accurate portrayal of the desperation of the people on both sides of the equation - those who are in need and those who are trying to help them." 7. The Khmer Rouge in the movie wear green uniforms, when in fact the soldiers' historical clothing was black. Quote: Nick Callahan: "You're not wearing perfume. Are you wearing perfume... in the... desert?" Anachronism: When the police van drives the Ethiopian boy to the airport in England, they drive past an Air Transat jet. The scene takes place in 1984, while Air Transat made its inaugural flight on November 14, 1987.

Rory Kennedy, the last born of their 11 children, asked her mother if she would be a part of a documentary. Opening with Ethel's memories about her family, the documentary has five days worth of interviews including with Ethel's siblings. The Kennedy family is documented in home videos and pictures. Rory called her mother's life one of the great untold stories. 2. Director, writer and producer: Rory Kennedy. The documentary is scored by Miriam Cutler.

Storyline: Retiring CIA agent Nathan Muir recalls his training of Tom Bishop while working against agency politics to free him from his Chinese captors. Trivia: 1. Filming locations included: (a) HSBC Hong Kong headquarters building, presented as the American embassy. (Note that there is actually a U.S. consulate general, but no embassy in Hong Kong.) The interior of the embassy was filmed at the Lloyd's building in London. (b) Budapest, Hungary served as Cold War Berlin in the film. The film was shot there to save money, and also because Berlin has changed a lot since the fall of the Berlin Wall. The helicopter landing in the film's climax was filmed at an airfield near Budapest. (c) Casablanca, Morocco became 1980s Beirut in the film. The crew started off in Haifa, Israel, but had to shift to Morocco because of the Al-Aqsa Intifada which broke out in late 2000. The Vietnam War segment was also filmed in Morocco. (d) Oxford, England: the former Oxford Prison, which closed in 1996, was used as the Chinese prison set in Su Chou (Suzhou). (It has since been converted into a luxury hotel.) Shots of the ambulance approaching the prison were also filmed in Queen's Lane in Oxford. (e) The GlaxoSmithKline research centre in Stevenage, England was used for exterior and some interior scenes at the CIA headquarters. (Aerial shots of the real headquarters were also included.) The CIA lobby location was in the Senate House of the University of London. 2. Close-ups of Robert Redford as Muir driving from his home to the CIA headquarters were filmed in Regent's Park, standing in for Washington, D.C. A second unit filmed footage in Washington, D.C. and Virginia for the scenes of Muir driving to and from the CIA headquarters. 3. The boat used in the filming was an original Russian-made hydrofoil and was provided by Stephen Canning of Iron Wolf Imports at the direction of Jonathan Frost. The boat was purchased in Lithuania and shipped to Morocco by truck, and then was unfortunately destroyed along with other props in Morocco. 4. Part of the film was originally set to have been filmed in Israel, but due to the sudden escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (in September-October 2000), and following the requirements of the actors' insurance companies, the filming took place in Morocco instead. 5. Dedicated to the memory of Elizabeth Jean Scott (died 2001), mother of Tony Scott and Ridley Scott. Anachronisms: 1. Late-1990s vintage computers and monitors appear in the scenes set in 1985 (the embassy in Beirut) and 1991 (the CIA headquarters). 2. While in Lebanon in 1985, Tom is wearing a style of San Diego Padres hat that did not exist until the early 1990s. 3. The cellphone that Muir uses was not available in 1991 when the movie was set. First models in the Nokia 2100 series were available during the summer of 1994, many other 21xx models much later on in America. 4. By April 1975, the US air base at Danang had been evacuated. 5. The opening to Baywatch being watched by the businessmen shows a credit for Pamela Anderson. This scene takes place in 1991, and Anderson did not join the show's cast until 1992. 6. In 1985, there weren't any small satellite dishes in Lebanon. 7. GSM mobile phone panel antennas, not used in the '80s, can be clearly seen all around the roof of the building in West Berlin. 8. There's a huge Coca-Cola sign in the Beirut café in 1985, but Coca-Cola wasn't re-introduced to the Lebanese market until July 1990, after a 23 year absence. 9. In addition to putting a non-existent US embassy into Hong Kong, the movie also places one in Berlin. In the 1980s the US Embassy to West Germany was in Bonn, not West Berlin (which was not strictly speaking part of West Germany). 10. In 1985 in the Beirut café, the song heard in the background is "Noor Eshams" by the Lebanese singer Pascal Mashalani, the song was released for the first time in 2000. 11. There are no American military bases in Penghu. All US military personnel were withdrawn from the Republic of China (including Penghu) after the US switched diplomatic recognition to mainland (Communist) China in 1979. Quote: Tom Bishop: [walking in on Nathan Muir shaving] "My god, you're hideous! Why do you even bother?"
Wuthering Heights. 1939 (black-and-white), Starring Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff, Merle Oberon as Catherine 'Cathy' Earnshaw Linton, David Niven as Edgar Linton, Flora Robson as Ellen Dean, Donald Crisp as Dr. Kenneth, Geraldine Fitzgerald as Isabella Linton, Leo G. Carroll as Joseph, Hugh Williams as Hindley Earnshaw, Miles Mander as Lockwood, Cecil Kellaway as Earnshaw, Cecil Humphreys as Judge Linton, Sarita Wooten as Cathy - as a Child, Rex Downing as Heathcliff - as a Child, Douglas Scott as Hindley - as a Child, Vernon Downing as Giles, Frank Benson as Heathcliff Servant, Romaine Callender as Robert, Alice Ehlers as Madame Ehlers, Harold Entwistle as Beadle, Peter Gowland as Dancer, Helena Grant as Miss Hudkins, Sam Harris as Party Guest/Wedding Guest, Susanne Leach as Guest, Tommy Martin as Little Boy, Edmund Mortimer as Party Guest, Schuyler Standish as Little Boy, William Stelling as Dancer, Diane Williams as Little Girl, Eric Wilton as Linton Servant and Philip Winter as Cathy's Partner. American Movie Classics, January 16, 2013. Soundtrack: "Piano Sonata in A major, K.331: Rondo alla Turca" (1778) (uncredited) - Music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Played by Alice Ehlers on harpsichord; "The Wedding March" (1843) (uncredited) from "A Midsummer Night's Dream, Op.61" - Written by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, In the score after the wedding. Storyline: A servant in the house of Wuthering Heights tells a traveler the unfortunate tale of lovers Cathy and Heathcliff. Trivia: It is an American black-and-white film directed by William Wyler and produced by Samuel Goldwyn. It is based on the novel, Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. The film depicts only sixteen of the novel's thirty-four chapters, eliminating the second generation of characters. The novel was adapted for the screen by Charles MacArthur, Ben Hecht and John Huston. 2. The film won the 1939 New York Film Critics Award for Best Film. It earned nominations for eight Academy Awards, including for Best Picture and Best Actor. The 1939 Academy Award for Best Cinematography, black-and-white category, was awarded to Gregg Toland for his work. 3. In 2007, Wuthering Heights was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". 4. Omissions from the novel: The film omitted any mention of Cathy's daughter and Heathcliff's son, both of whom play a major role in the last portion of the book. In the film, neither Heathcliff nor Cathy has any children. Isabella does not leave Heathcliff, or die, unlike in the novel where she manages to escape him and later passes away. Instead she remains his troubled, but loyal, wife even when Mr Lockwood visits. 5. The novel takes place in the late 18th and early 19th century. However, the film places the action in the mid-19th century, around the time of the novel's publication. Sarah Berry writes that Samuel Goldwyn deliberately chose to do this because he thought "Civil War" fashions were more attractive than Regency fashions. Other writers have claimed that Goldwyn was short on funds and had to recycle costumes from a Civil War drama. 6. Vivien Leigh wanted to play the lead role, alongside her then lover and future husband Laurence Olivier, but studio executives decided the role should go to Merle Oberon. They later offered Leigh the part of Isabelle Linton, but she declined and Geraldine Fitzgerald was cast. Leigh went on to star in Gone With The Wind, and win the Best Actress Oscar. Anachronism: Though the social situations, and even the soundtrack, are consistent with the novel's timeframe of 1770-1801, the Colonial/Napoleonic era, the costumes are clearly an odd mix of mid-Victorian and American Civil War.

Trivia: 1. It is an American horror film directed and co-written by Drew Goddard and co-written and produced by Joss Whedon, portraying five friends who travel to a remote cabin for a holiday and become victims of a seemingly stereotypical horror movie plot while being observed via hidden cameras by mysterious office workers. Goddard and Whedon, having worked together previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, wrote the screenplay in three days,[6] describing it as an attempt to "revitalize" the slasher film genre and a critical satire on torture porn. Filming took place from March to May 2009 on an estimated budget of $30 million, and was shot in Vancouver and Coquihalla Canyon Park, British Columbia. More than 60 artists worked on the effects before filming began. The film was both a critical and financial success, receiving near universal positive reviews, and featured on Metacritics best films of 2012 list. The Cabin in the Woods went on to gross over $65 million worldwide. 2. Kristen Connolly commented on her character: "I like that Dana is a regular person who doesn't start out thinking that she's really a bad-ass. She's just a regular kid whose strength comes out of her love for her friends and out of necessity...it's definitely more fun to be really dirty than to have to worry about looking really pretty." 3. The latin that Dana reads from the diary is: "Dolor supervivo caro. Dolor sublimus caro. Dolor ignio animus." It means: Pain outlives the flesh. Pain raises the flesh. Pain ignites the spirit. 4. Among the possible choices on the facility's betting board are the following: Werewolf, Alien Beast, Mutants, Wraiths, Zombies, Reptilius, Clowns, Witches, Sexy Witches, Demons, Hell Lord, Angry Molesting Tree, Giant Snake, Deadites, Mummy, The Bride, The Scarecrow Folk, Snowman, Dragonbat, Vampires, Dismemberment Gobllins, Sugarplum Fairy, Merman, The Reanimated, Unicorn, Huron, Sasquatch/Wendigo/Yeti, Dolls, Zombie Redneck Torture Family, The Doctors, Jack O' Lantern, Giant, Twins and Kevin. Although Kevin is never seen, in the tie-in book The Cabin in the Woods: The Official Visual Companion co-writer Drew Goddard said that Kevin was meant to be "a sweet-looking guy who seemed like he might work at Best Buy--until he dismembers people."

Trivia: 1. produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. The screenplay was co-written by Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke, and was partially inspired by Clarke's short story The Sentinel. 2. Produced and distributed by the American studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the film was made almost entirely in England, using both the studio facilities of MGM's subsidiary "MGM British" (among the last movies to be shot there before its closure in 1970) and those of Shepperton Studios, mostly because of the availability of much larger sound stages than in the United States. 3. The story deals with a series of encounters between humans and mysterious black monoliths that are apparently affecting human evolution, and a space voyage to Jupiter tracing a signal emitted by one such monolith found on the moon. Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood star as the two astronauts on this voyage, with Douglas Rain as the voice of the sentient computer HAL 9000 who has full control over their spaceship. The film is frequently described as an "epic film", both for its length and scope, and for its affinity with classical epics. 4. Thematically, the film deals with elements of human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence, and extraterrestrial life. It is notable for its scientific accuracy, pioneering special effects, ambiguous imagery that is open-ended, sound in place of traditional narrative techniques, and minimal use of dialogue. 5. The film has a memorable soundtrack—the result of the association that Kubrick made between the spinning motion of the satellites and the dancers of waltzes, which led him to use The Blue Danube waltz by Johann Strauss II, and the symphonic poem Also sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, to portray the philosophical concept of the Übermensch in Nietzsche's work of the same name. 6. Despite initially receiving mixed reactions from critics and audiences alike, 2001: A Space Odyssey garnered a cult following and slowly became a box office hit. Some years after its initial release, it eventually became the highest grossing picture from 1968 in North America. Today it is near-universally recognized by critics, filmmakers, and audiences as one of the greatest and most influential films ever made. 7. Daniel Richter, the chief man-ape ("Moon-Watcher" in Clarke's novel) and a professional street mime, in addition to playing the lead ape was also responsible for choreographing the movements of the other man-apes, who were mostly portrayed by his standing mime troupe. 8. Parodies: (a) Mad magazine #125 (March 1969) featured a spoof called 201 Minutes of a Space Idiocy written by Dick DeBartolo and illustrated by Mort Drucker. In the final panels it is revealed that the monolith is a movie script titled "How to Make an Incomprehensible Science Fiction Movie" by Stanley Kubrick." It was reprinted in various special issues, in the MAD About the Sixties book, and partially in the book "The Making of Kubrick's 2001". (b) Mel Brooks' satirical film History of the World, Part I opens with a parody of Kubrick's "Dawn of Man" sequence, narrated by Orson Welles. (c) Kubrick was both a great fan of The Simpsons[241] and in friendly contact with the show's producers, according to his stepdaughter Katharina. Analysts of the show argue that The Simpsons contains more references to many films of Stanley Kubrick than any other pop culture phenomenon. Of the many references to Kubrick in Groening's work, perhaps the most notable Space Odyssey reference in The Simpsons is in the episode "Deep Space Homer" in which Bart throws a felt-tip marker into the air; in slow motion it rotates, before a match cut replaces it with a cylindrical satellite. In 2004 Empire magazine listed this as the third best film parody of the entire run of the show. 9. During the trip Bowman takes after leaving the Discovery, some of the images seen are tinted footage of the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. 10. Keir Dullea spent 12 hours in make-up for his on-screen scenes as an old man. 11. Cameo - Vivian Kubrick: the daughter of Stanley Kubrick plays Dr. Floyd's daughter. 12. When Bowman reenters the ship, he is exposed to vacuum for no more than 10 seconds before operating the repressurization valve. Scientific evidence shows that this would indeed be survivable without grievous harm, notwithstanding the sensational depictions in other movies. Quote: HAL: "Just what do you think you're doing, Dave?"

The scene where Brandon hears his sister sing in the restaurant was shot in real time. James Badge Dale and Michael Fassbender had never heard Carey Mulligan sing before so their reactions were real. The scene was shot at 3 a.m with cameras focused on all 3 performers at the same time.

It is a fantasy/comedy film about the souls of four deceased people who are trapped on earth and can only be seen by a single living human being who is recruited to help them take care of their unfinished business. The movie was directed by Ron Underwood and was filmed in San Francisco, California. 2. The sign on the bus just before four of the main characters die is "4 Terminal." 3. Before she dies, Julia is seen waitressing at "The Purple Onion", a real San Francisco club where comedians such as Phyllis Diller and the Smothers Brothers (Dick Smothers and Tom Smothers) performed. When Julia's boyfriend shows up, the comedian on stage is dressed like, and performing one of the monologues of Bob Newhart, because he is Newhart's son. 4. Straight to video in the UK. 5. Julia's letter to John reads as follows: "John, There was so much I wanted to say to you tonight, but everything I said somehow came out all wrong. I am coming home because I want to be with you. I hope you'll give me another chance. Whatever happens, please know I will love you always. Julia" 6. Music Director Cameo (Marc Shaiman): audition piano accompanist. 7. The guest comedian at The Purple Onion is Bob Newhart, played by his real life son, Robert William Newhart. It is his only movie credit to date. 8. The saxophone music playing during Anne and Thomas' Barbados lunch is an arrangement of "Heart and Soul." Quote: Harrison Winslow: "Who came up with this ridiculous concept anyway? Resolve your entire life in one bold stroke? What if I fail? And I will. I'll fail. I'm telling you. I always fail. Then my whole life will be a complete failure." Thomas Reilly: "No offense, Harrison. But you died a failure because you never tried." Anachronism: Mr & Mrs Reilly were shown about to give birth in a 1958 Rambler. Their interior headshots displayed adjustable headrests in velour - not available in 1958.

Trivia: 1. It is an American comedy-drama film directed by Robert Altman. Filmed from a screenplay by Altman and Frank Barhydt, it is inspired by 9 short stories and a poem by Raymond Carver. Substituting a Los Angeles setting for the Pacific Northwest backdrop of Carver's stories, the film traces the actions of 22 principal characters, both in parallel and at occasional loose points of connection. The role of chance and luck is central to the film, and many of the stories concern death and infidelity. 2. The film features an ensemble cast including Matthew Modine, Julianne Moore, Fred Ward, Anne Archer,Jennifer Jason Leigh, Robert Downey Jr, Jack Lemmon, Buck Henry, Lily Tomlin, and musicians Huey Lewis and Tom Waits. 3. Madeleine Stowe turned down the part later taken by Julianne Moore. The notorious bottom nude scene ultimately played by Julianne Moore deterred a lot of other actresses, including Madeleine Stowe, who switched roles in the film. Ironically, Stowe's new part required nudity too, though it was topless, rather than bottomless. 4. All Jennifer Jason Leigh's phone-sex conversations are verbatim of the calls she heard when she was researching for the part. 5. Annie Ross and Lori Singer's segment is a Robert Altman invention and has no connection to anything Raymond Carver has written. 6. The film was shot in 10 weeks. Each storyline was filmed in weekly divisions. Filming primarily took place in Los Angeles, California. 7. Laura Dern turned down a role in the film.

Storyline: A member of British Intelligence assumes a fictitious criminal identity and allows himself to be caught, imprisoned, and freed in order to infiltrate a spy organization and expose a traitor. Trivia: 1. It is a British cold war spy thriller film directed by John Huston. It was produced by John Foreman and William Hill as associate producer from a screenplay by Walter Hill and William Fairchild based on the novel The Freedom Trap by Desmond Bagley. 2. The music score was by Maurice Jarre and the cinematography by Oswald Morris. [The music score was the most annoying music I have ever endured during a movie. There was no variation in it, just the same somewhat intense instrumental music played over and over in many of the action scenes. I don't usually complain about the music in a movie, but this was really very annoying. - Ed.] It was made by the Newman-Foreman Company and Warner Bros. 3. The film was shot in the UK at Pinewood Studios, London, England, and on location in the Republic of Ireland and Malta. It and the book it is adapted from, are loosely based on the exposure and defection of George Blake, a Soviet agent in British intelligence. The scene where Slade and Rearden escape from prison are inspired by Blake's escape from Wormwood Scrubs in 1966. The jail scenes were filmed at Liverpool Prison and Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin. 4. The film received a mixed reception when it was released, and did not perform well at the box office in either the United Kingdom, United States or Canada. However, the film still drew total Box office receipts of $1,500,000 with US/Canada rentals. 5. The movie has exactly the same plot as the "Escape Route" episode of The Saint (episode 85, 30 December 1966), which had Roger Moore in Newman's role, and Donald Sutherland in Bannen's role. Actor Eric Mason has small parts in both the film and the TV episode. Desmond Bagley is not credited on "The Saint" episode, and his novel "The Freedom Trap" did not appear until 1971. 6. First Hollywood movie for French actress Dominique Sanda. 7. The lines that Slade quotes, "Sleep after Toil, Port after stormy Seas, Ease after War, Death after Life, does greatly please", come from the poem, 'Faerie Queene' Book I: Canto IX by 'Edmund Spenser'.

Trivia: 1. It is an American superhero film inspired by the Marvel Comics comic Fantastic Four. It was directed by Tim Story, and released by 20th Century Fox. It is the second live-action Fantastic Four film to be filmed. The previous attempt, a B-movie produced by Roger Corman only for the purpose of retaining the film rights, was never intended for a theatrical release. 2. The film was released in the United States on July 8, 2005. Despite getting major hype on its release and becoming a box office success, the film was negatively received by critics. It was the third superhero film of the year, after Elektra and Batman Begins. A sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, was released in 2007. 3. As in almost all of the previous Marvel Comics-based films, Fantastic Four co-creator Stan Lee makes a cameo appearance as Willie Lumpkin, the postal worker who greets the team on their way to the Baxter Building elevator. Other cameos are: Ralph Winter, the film's producer, playing the construction worker at the end of the film who closes the container door on Dr. Doom., and Richard Ho, one of Wizard magazine's staff writers, who appears as one of the reporters in front of the Baxter Building in a crowd sequence. Wizard is one of the most successful and popular magazines about the comics business. 4. The film has nearly 900 special effects shots. A replica of a part of the Brooklyn Bridge was constructed on-set in Canada. The scene on the bridge took about 5 weeks to shoot. Some shooting occurred in Vancouver, British Columbia. During the pier conversation between Reed and Sue, not only were the actors not together (which is relatively common in filmmaking), they weren't even in the same country. Jessica Alba was filmed in New York City, while Ioan Gruffudd was filmed in Vancouver, BC, Canada. During scenes that are supposed to take place in New York, you can clearly see the Burrard and Granville bridges of Vancouver, BC. The logo for CityTV of Vancouver is clearly visible in a street scene. 5. While Sue Storm is unpacking in the Baxter Building, in the background a signed photo of the band Devo can be seen. The film contains over 25 cameos by real-life employees of Fox television affiliates. 6. To get through the long arduous make-up, Michael Chiklis spent the time in the make-up chair watching the Boston Red Sox, his favorite team, who happened to be breaking the "Curse of the Bambino" winning their first World Series since 1918. 7. WILHELM SCREAM: used at least twice during the last fight of the film. Once as the bus is thrown, and then again shortly after. Chris Evans improvised most of his dialog. Quote: Ben Grimm: [Sitting on the Brooklyn Bridge] "Oh yeah Ben, few days in space, it'll be great, what's the worst that could happen?"

Trivia: 1. It is an American 3D family comedy film based on The Smurfs comic book series created by the Belgian comics artist Peyo and the 1980s animated TV series it spawned. It was directed by Raja Gosnell. It is the first CGI/live-action hybrid film produced by Sony Pictures Animation and in The Smurfs trilogy. During early production the film was known as The Smurfs Movie. 2. The film tells the story of the Smurfs as they get lost in New York, and try to find a way to get back home before Gargamel catches them. After five years of negotiations, Jordan Kerner bought the rights in 2002 and was in development with Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies until Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation obtained the film rights in 2008. Filming was in New York City. 3. Despite receiving mostly negative reviews from critics, The Smurfs has been a box office success, and CinemaScore polls showed a positive score from audience voters. The Smurfs reached the $500 million milestone in the weekend of September 23–25, 2011. 4. Principal photography was in New York City. Scenes were filmed in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood. Some scenes were shot all night for five nights in a row at F.A.O. Schwartz toy store. Production was temporarily halted after a worker fell 30 feet from a set at the toy store on Fifth Avenue and 58th Street; he later recovered in a hospital. Other locations used for filming were Belvedere Castle, the Russian Tea Room, Rockefeller Center, and Brooklyn's Prospect Park. A two-thirds-scale replica of the Belvedere Castle was built with wooden grates as floors (to create additional contrast). Gargamel's dungeon under the Belvedere Castle, which included the "Smurfalator", was built on a soundstage. It took three months to build because some parts were hard to come by. Production eventually found the rare parts at garage sales, flea markets, on eBay and Craigslist. 4. From the voice actors in this film, Jonathan Winters (Papa Smurf) voiced Grandpa Smurf in several episodes of Smurfs as well as 'Tis the Season to Be Smurfy and Frank Welker (Azrael) voiced Hefty Smurf in Smurfs. Winters provided the voice of Grandpa Smurf in the 1980s cartoon series. He and Frank Welker are the only original cast members from the TV series who returned for the film. Gutsy Smurf, Crazy Smurf and Narrator Smurf are the newest Smurfs to appear since the death of "Smurfs" creator Pierre "Peyo" Culliford in 1992. 5. The box in which the Smurfs hide in has 'Belgium' as the country of sender. Belgium is the native country of "Smurfs" creator Peyo. 6. Hank Azaria is the third actor to play Gargamel. Paul Winchell voiced Gargamel until the last cartoon season (1989-1990), and an unknown voice actor took his place after Winchell allegedly walked out of his role due to issues with the Season 9 script. 7. Smurfette (Katy Perry) says "I kissed a Smurf and I liked it", a reference to Perry's first hit single, "I Kissed a Girl". 8. An exact replica of the Belvedere Castle was built for the film, that was two-thirds the size of the real thing. During filming, each smurf was represented by a different colored dot on the set, and actors had to remember which dot was which Smurf. 9. The filmmakers made the decision (after numerous tests) to depict the Smurfs at 7½ inches: any larger, they would no longer appear as the lovable creatures as they are known for; any smaller, it would be difficult for them to relate to real-world objects and people. The Smurfs originally started out as a comic book, by Peyo. In homage of this, a "Smurfs" comic book plays a pivotal role in the film. According to Peyo, the Smurfs never take off their caps. However they do so in the movie, by using them as parachutes when jumping down from an apartment balcony. Relatives of Peyo demanded that for that scene the Smurfs are seen only from above or below. 10. Gutsy, Smurfette and Gargamel are all linked to another movie personage which their character resembles. Gutsy, the Scottish Smurf, yells "Freedom!" like William Wallace does in Braveheart , also Scottish. When Smurfette shows the other Smurfs her new dress it is blown upwards like Marilyn Monroe's in The Seven Year Itch while Smurfette tries to hold it down. Gargamel, being a wizard, is linked to the character Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring as he spots a moth and asks it to bring him eagles to rescue him like the way Gandalf escapes his imprisonment from Saruman. 11. Katy Perry, who voices Smurfette in this film, wasn't allowed to watch the original Smurfs series as a child. Her parents were highly conservative pastors and didn't consider it to be good for their children. About gaining the voice role, Perry said: "They had done a blind test where they took certain voices from previous interviews and matched them with the character. They liked my voice without even knowing who it was, and when they found out it was me, they thought that would work out. My personality was just a plus!" 12. Hank Azaria plays Gargamel, the arch-nemesis of the Smurfs who plots to use the Smurfs as part of a spell which would turn lead into gold. As opposed to the television show where Gargamel's goal is use the Smurfs as the key ingredient in an alchemical formula to create gold or eat them or destroy them, in the film he wants to capture them to serve as charms, "whose mystical essence will make his inept magic more powerful — and dangerous". To look the part of Gargamel, Azaria wore a prosthetic nose, ears, buck teeth, eyebrows and a wig (to make the process easier, he shaved his head). The initial make-up test took three hours, but by mid-production the process took 90 minutes to complete. Azaria was transformed over 50 times and spent approximately 130 hours in the make-up chair. 13. Alan Cumming plays Gutsy Smurf, one of three Smurfs created specifically for the film and who is Scottish, wears a kilt, and has sideburns. The character is also described as the "action hero" of the film. Anton Yelchin, who plays Clumsy Smurf, commented on his character's personality change from the cartoons series saying, "I was familiar with Clumsy from the TV series, where he had that Southern twang. I went back and watched that, and then Raja, Jordan and I talked about it. We decided to make Clumsy a little simpler, a little sweeter. His voice is pitched higher than my normal speaking voice – it's full of joy, optimism, and enthusiasm for life. Clumsy isn't trying to mess anything up for anybody — he's just clumsy, and actually, he‘s tired of being clumsy". George Lopez plays Grouchy Smurf. To prepare for his role of being "grouchy", Lopez did not drink coffee, made sure he had bad breath and picked the busiest time to get to the studio. 14. John Kassir plays Crazy Smurf, the second Smurf created specifically for the film, and Tom Kane is the Narrator Smurf, the third Smurf created specifically for the film. Frank Welker is Azrael, Gargamel's cat. Welker provided the voice of Hefty Smurf and other characters in the 1980s cartoon series. Four Orange tabby cats played the role of Azrael with some scenes being created with CGI by Tippett Studio. Animal trainer Larry Madrid had a "rare Burma cat" that was used to educe snarls from the other cats since they did not like him. 15. Joan Rivers, Liz Smith, Tom Colicchio, Olivia Palermo and Michael Musto make cameos in the film at a fictional Anjelou cosmetics product launch. 16. WILHELM SCREAM: During Gargamel's evil spell near the end. Quote: Smurfette: "I kissed a Smurf, and liked it?"

Mother was filmed on location in and around the Sausalito, Greenbrae, and Tiburon areas, with additional shooting in San Francisco. 3. Mother received mostly positive reviews from critics and holds a 90% rating on review aggragator Rotten Tomatoes based on 41 reviews. 4. Brooks wanted a famous actress from the 1950s to play the role of Mother, and originally offered the role to retired actresses Nancy Reagan and Doris Day. Day refused; Reagan loved the script and considered coming out of retirement for her first acting role in more than 40 years, but decided instead to stay home and care for her husband, Ronald Reagan, who was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Brooks then asked his good friend Carrie Fisher if she could send the script to her mother, Debbie Reynolds, who accepted the part. 5. Since she had received no alimony from ex-husband Paul Simon, Albert Brooks asked good friend and daughter of the movie's star Debbie Reynolds, Carrie Fisher, if she would ask her ex to give Brooks the right to use an adapted version of his famous song "Mrs. Robinson", originally used in the film The Graduate along with his equally famous partner Art Garfunkel. As "Simon & Garfunkel", both artists refused to allow anyone use of their iconic song. In the early eighties, the duo were offered a lot of money to rework the song for a "Mr. Coffee" commercial. They refused that and all other offers. However, because of his relationship with Fisher, Simon agreed and the song was rewritten using the name "Mrs. Henderson" instead. 6. Lisa Kudrow was nominated for a Razzie for her role in the film as Linda. Quotes: 1. John Henderson: "Stop. No more food. It's like FANTASIA." 2. John Henderson: "We're in the 90s, mother. It's fancy jam time."

The Dubai locales were filmed in Los Angeles, California. 3. Eric L. Haney, a retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major who operated in Delta Force, was the technical advisor, and briefly appears. After Spartan, he and Mamet created The Unit television series about an Army unit mirroring Delta Force. Alexandra Kerry, daughter of U.S. senator, John Kerry, is a bartender in the film. David Mamet's Rabbi, Mordechai Finley, appears as one of the training cadre. 4. Origin of title - Spartan's title makes multiple allusions: (a) King Leonidas I, of Sparta, is said to have sent one soldier when a neighboring state requested military aid. (b) As Scott says, "One riot, one Ranger". Previously, Mamet used that dialogue in House of Games; and it has subsequently been used in The Unit. The remark is said to be Texas Rangers lore. (c) The film's minimalist style, from the characters' clipped dialogue; to its music (violin and, later, bagpipes, used sparingly); to Mamet's efficient resolution of a plot line that frequently (and intentionally) threatens to become unwieldy. (d) The recurring use of dialogue reinforcing the basic story line -- "Where is the girl?", "I'm here to get the girl back", "Is she safe?", etc. -- intended to emphasize the minimalist narrative style that the film's title evokes. (e) The automatic knife used in the film is "The Spartan" by Severtech and was designed for this film. 5. Val Kilmer's character was inspired, in part, by real life U.S. Special Operations operative Eric L. Haney. When Scott is questioning the boyfriend, a plaque in the background has the names of various cast members. 6. A residence situated in the Hollywood Hills that featured Moroccan-influenced architecture doubled as the Dubai house. This home was once owned by music legend Chuck Berry. 7. Curtis' booklet: [Roger's Rangers booklet circa 1757] RULES OF WAR / 1. Don't forget nothing. / 2. Have your musket clean as a whistle, hatchet scoured, sixty rounds powder and ball, and be ready to march at a minute's warning. / 3. When you're on the march, act the way you would if you was sneaking up on a deer. See the enemy first. / 4. Tell the truth about what you see and what you do. There is an army depending on us for correct information. You can lie all you please when you tell other folks about the Rangers, but don't never lie to a Ranger or officer. / 5. Don't never take a chance you don't have to. / 6. When we're on the march we march single file, far enough apart so one shot can't go through two men. / 7. If we strike swamps, or soft ground, we spread out abreast, so it's hard to track us. / 8. When we march, we keep moving till dark, so as to give the enemy the least possible chance at us. / 9. When we camp, half the party stays awake while the other half sleeps / 10. If we take prisoners, we keep 'em separate till we have had time to examine them, so they can't cook up a story between 'em. / 11. Don't ever march home the same way. Take a different route so you won't be ambushed. / 12. No matter whether we travel in big parties or little ones, each party has to keep a scout 20 yards ahead, 20 yards on each flank and 20 yards rear so the main body can't be surprised and wiped out / 13. Every night you'll be told where to meet if surrounded by a superior force. / 14. Don't sit down to eat without posting sentries. / 15. Don't sleep beyond dawn. It is an American Western film, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood and produced by Robert Daley for The Malpaso Company and Universal Pictures. Eastwood plays a mysterious gunfighter hired by the residents of a corrupt frontier mining town to defend them against a group of criminals. 2. The film was shot on location on the shores of Mono Lake, California. Eastwood scouted locations for filming in a pickup truck while driving alone through Oregon, Nevada, and California. He had an entire town built on the shores of Mono Lake for the project, as he considered the area "highly photogenic". Over 40 technicians and 10 construction workers built the town in 18 days using 150,000 feet of timber. The town of Lago was built 300 miles away from Hollywood. A 46-man crew of technicians and 10 laborers worked 10-hours a day for 18 days constructing 14 houses and a two-story hotel. They were burned down at the film's completion. Additional scenes were filmed at Reno, Nevada's Winnemucca Lake and California's Inyo National Forest. Eastwood filmed High Plains Drifter in sequence. Filming was completed in only six weeks. 3. The screenplay was written by Ernest Tidyman and an uncredited Dean Riesner. Tidyman wrote the novelization. Dee Barton provided the film's musical score. The film proved popular at the time and remains so today, holding a score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. 4. Eastwood has noted that the graveyard set featured in the film's finale had tombstones reading "Sergio Leone" and "Don Siegel", intended as a humorous tribute to the two directors. 5. The character of Marshal Duncan was played by the stuntman Buddy Van Horn, a long-time stunt coordinator for Clint Eastwood, in order to create some ambiguity as to whether he and the Stranger are one and the same. During an interview on Inside the Actors Studio, Eastwood commented that earlier versions of the script made the Stranger the dead marshal's brother. He favored a less explicit and more supernatural interpretation, however, and excised the reference,[citation needed] although the Italian, Spanish, French and German dubbings restore it. 6. Shortly after the film's release, Clint Eastwood wrote to John Wayne, suggesting that they make a western together. Wayne sent back an angry letter in reply, in which he denounced this film for its violence and revisionist portrayal of the Old West. Eastwood did not bother to answer his criticisms, and consequently they did not work together. 7. There is no spoken dialogue until six minutes into the film. 8. One of the first Westerns that took a revisionist stance as opposed to the traditional ones of the genre. Quote: Mordecai: "I never did know your name..." The Stranger: "Oh, yes you do." Anachronisms: 1. All houses in the city (Lago) have modern window glass of the type float glass and not "handmade" as they were until the mid-19th century. 2. When the stranger rides into town, huge tire tracks like those made by a truck are seen on the road. 3. When The Stranger gives the Indian children the jars of candy in the general store, the jars have white plastic seals. Plastic was unknown in the 19th century. 4. When the Stranger buys drinks for everybody in the saloon, the shots of the bar from behind where the glasses are stored clearly show fluorescent lighting underneath the bar.
